    Trina:
I know exactly how you feel and what you are going through. The only difference is I don't have alopecia. My daughter does and has been dealing with this condition for 3 years. She is in the 7th grade and it so hard. These are tough years! She has AU and has some regrowth, but not much. She has not told her peers. She wears a great hair piece. She has 3 best friends that know, and they are very supportive. I will keep you and your daughter in my prayers. Let's keep in touch.

Hi Trinia, How is Niyah doing ? I was wondering if her other patches were filling in yet? Sam is still growing and filling in, but you can see the thicker hair coming. I have found an eyebrow hair on one eye and see 2 dark ones coming in on the other..We are getting pretty excited around here, but you know I will be the one crashing if we don't continue on this road. How is gymnastics going?

Hey, Trina. After listening to the following poem on YouTube yesterday, I thought of quite a few women who might also enjoy it. You were one, so here it is. ;-)

  • Cindy

Hey Trina, I need some advice...Samantha's scalp is flaking and has been for a while. I made an apt for the derm next month, but I don't know if it is something I should be worried about and take her sooner. I am wondering if the wig can be causing it since it started around the time we got the new one. Could it be the tape? Do you have any suggestions. I have been putting aquaphor on her scalp, but it is not helping. She is still growing and the eyebrows on one eye are starting to come in dark now..When I talked the one of her dr last month she said to bring her in if it did not get better and offered no advice, but this is the student doctor. We see two drs during our visit.
  • Cindy

Samantha has an apt next month. I am not overally worried, but I am not sure if it is the wig or tap because she has the flaking in areas that the wig does not cover. I will get some Biotin shampoo though. I was using it and stopped and have been using the Viviscal. Actually, come to think of it I started using that in late Aug early Sept when hair starting to take off. Maybe I will go back to the biotin shampoo. I am feeling a tad bit paranoid lately because sometimes I think some of the regrowth is coming out. For some reason I thought she had a bit more on the top..My eyes must be tired of looking at her..Thanks for your advice..Cindy
  • Cindy

Trina, I ended up taking Sam to the doctor yesterday. They were ecstatic with her regrowth and told her she is a good patient for handling it all. They gave me some steroid cream on her head and told me to put neosporin on the scabs and it should heal in a week. I stopped that shampoo I was using a week ago and we think it was that that caused this. We will keep our apt next month and hopefully have more hair by then!
  • Kayreyn

Trina, thank you for your words of encouragement. It's great to hear that your daughter is in remission now. I've actually read some of your old posts when I first joined the site, and started my daughter on the Buried Treasure vitamins you recommended. My only concern with that is that it has a high concentration of Vitamin A, and I know that can cause hairloss. What do you think about that?
  • Cindy

Trina, that is such great news about Niyah..I sure hope her hair stays..It sounds like she will do something amazing with her life when she grows up. Bless her..

    Good morning Trina,

Like you, I'm getting married next year to the most wonderful man in the world and don't even know where to begin planning! Yes, I'm still an undercover rebel, but I know how to behave when the situation calls for it. LOL

I haven't updated the music on my page yet, but I think I will do that today -- I'm feeling a little Dixie Chick-ish!!!
  • Cindy

Hi Trina, nice to hear from you. Yes, it is getting cold....We have no comp till March. Sam is going to do a Counting Crows song. I am glad that Niyah has had full regrowth. I ended up taking Samantha to the doctor and we all agreed it was the shampoo causing the scalp irritation. Some cortisone cream and neosporin cleared it up fast. She is growing her hair. Some spots getting thicker and longer and some still bald. I would say she has a layer of hair over about 65% of her head now. The eyebrows are frustrating me to know end. They come and go. I am giving Samantha the biotin lozenges, aloe juice and now cod liver oil. She is so good about it all. T he doctors were so happy to see her hair growing. The last time we saw the doctor she had some light fuzz. We go back next week because they wanted to see that her head is clear. I did have a melt down last week when it took me an hr to get her wig on for school. It does not always stick well since we are taping it on her hair in most parts. I am waiting for her new one in hopes it will require less tape since the cap is different. I hate this, but we are hoping that by her b-day in Feb she can have a short hair cut. I guess i just feel sad lately since it was this time last year that it all really started coming out and I was looking for wigs..Thanks for thinking of us..When is the comp?
  • Cindy

Trina, some days I think you are my conscious..Thanks for the words of advice as always..Good luck to Niyah for her competition. When is the big wedding day?
  • Julia

    Hey...got your email...thanks!

Congrats on your wedding...remember to take time to breathe!

    Take Care
  • Angie

Hey Trina I just wanted to say I love your hair. I suffer from alopecia universalis and been interesting in trying the lace wigs. I cant even tell you have alopecia I too want that look. Do you wear lace wigs?
  • Cindy

Yes, I can count on you!!!!!!
  • Angie

Thats cool that you do your own hair and make it look that good. I'm looking for a change. I wear a wig basically till it gets dull. My friends advise me to change and wear different styles. I don't why but I'm scared of a change. I'm really considering trying a lace wig but there so expensive. I plan to save a little money and try it. Bring 2009 in with a new look have them hatin' lol.
  • Kristen Ridenhour

That's awesome! I miss competing. Gymnastics is such a great sport. How long has she had AA? That's good that she's handling it well.
  • Royalty

Just stopping by to say hi Trina, I hope you enjoy your holiday!
  • Cindy

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!!!!

    How did the comp go?
  • Avis

Hi Trina! I love your pics. Your daughter is a cutie pie. I pray she will not have to live with alopecia, but if she does she will have a strong role model in you. Take Care.
  • kristin

thanks for sharing, and high five to the little one!
  • Prayer

Hi Trina, That is a blessing your daughter is doing so well, I am sure. she will continue with all your continued support. What specific vitamins does she take, does she still drink the aloe vera juice and use the hair grease?
  • Prayer

Trina, I read your comment on the kenalog injections, so they did work for you?
  • Caroline (Taylor's Mom)

Hi Trina, Thanks for the support. It's been very hard over the past couple of weeks with Taylor losing so much of her hair. Yesterday she wore a wig to school for the first day. She was thrilled. She is currently using a topical steriod and rogaine. Any suggestions? Any Doctors you'd suggest in our area?
  • Cindy

HI Trina, thanks for your post..She actually has just A layer of hair, but it is getting thicker..I need to post some pictures...It is taking its time coming in like it took its time coming out..Good luck to Niyah on Saturday!
  • Cindy

I posted some pics that I took a few weeks ago..
  • Mari

WHEW!! I do really worry what I say and preview tons of times before I post because I know how easy it is to say the wrong thing- and this is a huge ole support group. I was so hoping I hadn't come across that way- thanks hon :)
  • Prayer

Trina, let me first say thank you for being you, and being so open, you are truly a great person to communicate with. You mentioned you stopped taking the injections even though they worked for you, was it b/c it was too much to deal with? Also can you provide me with the name of hair grease again.
    Thanks,
  • Prayer

Thanks for your support, I am going to try the hair grease I went to the web site and saw both a temple oil that mentioned preventing alopecia and then there was one that was a gro serum, which do you use?
  • Cindy

Hi Trina, just wanted to wish you a Happy Holiday and New Year!!
  • Cindy

Oh Trina, I don't know what to think anymore..I am looking at Samantha wondering if this treatment is going to work for her 100%. I am questioning if she is getting the reaction she needs to have these days. I can't sleep these days and when I looked at her a few minutes ago I saw a few pieces of hair on her pillow. My husband tells me to relax, her hair is growing. I don't know if the AA is causing her hair to come out or if it the cycle of hair growth. I giver her all these vitamins, she tolerates everything I tell her to do and I don't know if she will have the results. I am at the end of my road. Or at least that is how I feel at this moment. Samantha school picture came this week and I hate it and I think that is what is making me feel this way. That pale no lashes and eyebrow look. Makes me wonder if she will ever get her old look back. Tomorrow we get a new wig or shall I say today. ..
  • Rose

    Hi Trina,

Just let me say that your look is great and your daughter is lovely! :)

    kisses
  • Cindy

Hi Trina, stopping by to wish you a Happy New Year!! We will bring in the new year with a snow storm so not sure where that leaves our plans for tomorrow.

I had a question for you. Samantha got her new wig from the hair club Saturday. I left very unhappy and have been somewhat on the down side lately as you know. The stylist completely cut her wig the way I don't like it and she went and did her own thing. She cut bangs. I don't think she realized it until after she did it, but I left crying. She told me that a wig looks more natural with bands vs one length. Do you agree with that? I just like it parted down the side and one length. As she did I asked are you just cutting an under layer and she said yes and then before I knew it she had bangs.

I took Samantha for cranial therapy yesterday. My massage therapist does it and she is excellent. I am wondering if it will have any effect on her scalp.
  • Cindy

I don't want to do a vacuum wig because she has hair and it is growing. I want to see what happens. My understanding is you need to bald for that. If this becomes a permanent thing for her then I want to look into it since it is an investment. Does that make sense?
  • Nikki

hey trina. I simply love ur hair. I read one of the posts that you do your hair yourself.....care to share?
  • Cindy

Thanks for you ears as always!! Have a wonderful New Year!! You have an exciting year ahead!!
  • Nikki

Happy New Year!!! Thanks for getting back to me. I've been dealing with this for so long, nothing is too hard for me to understand. Do you have a personal email addy?
