Profile Information:

Relationship Status:
Single
About Me:
I am separated with two college age children and work in a hospital.
I first noticed Alopecia Areata 4 years ago which started with loonie size patches mostly on the left side of my head. Since then I have gone on to develop 2 more autoimmune diseases. I am still getting used to this new me and have had regrowth and lost it again. I am in the process of losing my eyebrows now and some new patches appeared recently.
I am happy that I have found this site as it is reassuring at times to know that what I am experiencing (the feeling of a burning scalp etc) is part of this condition.
Thanks

Hi Wendy, I am so sorry to not have gotten back to you before now... for some reason I didnt see the friend request until today...I'm still new to the site so I'm pretty sure I just over looked it.
I live in a suburb of Toronto.. so not too far from Ottawa, but not too close.. although we go to Ottawa a lot. I've had alopecia so long now that its hard to picture my life any other way... (although I wouldnt protest if my hair grew back) Its hard to adjust... no arguments there.. I guess a good attitue and a good wig helps... anytime you need to talk, I'm only an email away.

    Hi Wendy,
I know AA can be a real pain the ass. Just to answer your questions, this is all my real hair. I do not use wigs. Most of my hair has grown back and currently I have no patches at all. However I notice one side thinning a lot and I just been through a period of stress so I am sure I will have a nice baseball sized bald spot.'
    Have a wonderful day,
    X Victoria

    Hi Wendy

I have done all the shops in Toronto, its really not much in terms of GOOD variety. I now buy my wigs in the states.. in Dallas to be exact... I've been a customer there for 21 years.. Perhaps somethings have changed on the wig front in Toronto and I just dont know about it.. VERY POSSIBLE.. but the one I have I can swim in, and no slidding issues.. let me know if you need a name.

Hi Wendy, There seems to be a few people from the Ottawa area on AW. So you may want to look them up? I have some family and friends in Ottawa, who I try to visit a few times a year. Thanks for the friend invite, you are my second friend on AW from Ottawa. If you would like to chat, feel free to email me. Have a good week, Kim J

Hi! Sorry it took me so long to reply- been really busy with exams and work! Hope you're doing well on your journey! How are you doing? Do you have a wig? I noticed that there isn't much of a selection in Ottawa, I order mine from the internet.

    Hi Wendy,
Great to meet you! And you are the first person with AA I've found in Ottawa, believe it or not! I don't know any eyebrow technicians - I too thought about having it done, but mine have come back a bit (very patchy though) and I use a Rimmel eyebrow pencil to fill in the gaps. Thank you for your kind words. I buy my wigs on eBay and never pay more than $50 or so!!! Cheap or what?!!!! As for scarves, I love them and wear them when the wigs start to get me down. I sometimes wear hats, but I'm always afraid they'll come off. Please feel free to email me if you want to chat.

    Take care,

    Julia

Ha ha! No, I just snip 'em and wear 'em! I told you I was cheap............lol That way, if I mess them up, I have only myself to blame! My email address is juliaforester@yahoo.ca. Hope you have a great day. Take care and talk soon.

    Julia :-)

Thanks for th encouragement. This is a photo of me trying on wigs. I have 4 but I never wear them. I sweat too much and they are too itchy for me. I wear bandanas and scarfs all the time and go bald at home. This is more.....me! or perhaps it is because I just haven't found that one wig that I feel right in?

I too have lost my eyebrows, eyelashes too, in fact I have lost everything on my body. The brows and lashes are the hardest to deal with. Apparently I am pretty good at drawing them on, because a lot of people think they are real. Who knew I had a talent!

It is nice to meet you. I think at some point we should try and get us Ottawa area "survivors" together and vent and laugh and well whatever.
You have a great long weekend too, I will be painting the house all weekend, good? not sure yet.
    Take care,
    Natalie
