I'm 15 years old. I've had Alopecia ever since I was 2. Luckily, I have an almost full head of hair right now. When I was 2 I only had patches(Areata) and my mom took me to the doctor to find out what was wrong with me. The docotor gave my mom a pamphlet, didn't describe anything and sent us out of the office. My mom started reading the pamphlet and immidiately stormed back into the docotor's office and yelled at him! Then in second grade I lost ALL of my hair!!! But once I got in 4th grade it started growing back and now I only have Areata. My mom is a state representative in Delaware and just recently passed a bill saying that insurance companies have to pay 500 dollars for full-scalp prothseses in Delaware. I play softball on my highschool team, played volleyball in the beginning of the school year, and I dance at a local studio. Actually, I quit dance at that studio and am now trying to get involved with another one. The dances I take are hiphop, jazz, and modern.
I love reading- anytime, anywhere. Some books I love are: House of Night(by P.C. and Kristen Cast), Mamimum Ride(James Patterson), Twilight(Stephanie Myer), Pride&Prejudice and Emma(Jane Austen), Wuthering Heights(Emily Bronte), Dracula(Bram Stoker), Romeo&Juliet and Othello(Shakespeare), Speak(Laurie Paulse Anderson), Evermore(Alyson Noel), and the Private serieas(Kate Brian).
Music&Bands are another hug part of my life. Here are some of my favorite artists(thought some are quite scary): Paramore, Evanescence, Flyleaf, Hey Monday, The Hush Sound, We The Kings, Jimmy Eat World, Avenged Sevenfold, Brokencyde, Atreyu, Framing Hanley, Panic! At The Disco, Slipknot, 3 Doors Down, Yellowcard, No Doubt, Taylor Swift, David Cook, and sooo many more!
Hi Peyton,
Have you tried hair extensions to hide the spots? A lot of women find that they work really well.
Hey! I would love it if you read my book! You can get it on www.Amazon.com at a big discount, as well as on my web site: www.leslieannbutler.npauthors.com. I think you would like it! If you get it, please let me know how you like it, okay?
Goodie! I'm excited to find out what you think about the book!
Tell your Mom she's great. She will love reading it, too!
Yes, try the hair extensions. Lots of chicks have good luck with them...but read the book first because I have some good info about them, okay?
Hugs!
Thanks Peyton. We try to go Harley riding at least one day on the weekend. Please tell your Mom congratulation on her accomplishment!! We need more states to do what NH , MN and DE have done!! Enjoy your summer too.
Cheers,
Debbi Fuller (p.s. watch my page for a new tattoo photo soon! I just got another one on my head - a dragon!!
i'm 14 too, and entering highschool. i see we have similar stories, except i've never had my hair grow back...even progressed towards areata. its always been universalis.
anyways, i think its great that your mom worked hard to pass the bill or wigs in delaware! i live in illinois, and that hasn't passed yet...actually, my one of my classes worked hard to send letters to the senate to get them to pass a bill, but no one accepted it. =[
Hi Peyton. I don't know if you remember me, but I'm Jenn from Maryland. I used to come and visit you and your family once in a while a few years back. I saw your pictures and your are gorgeous....growing up in to a beautiful young lady. I lost touch with your Mom, which meant I lost touch with you. I think of you often and hope to hear back from you! Tell your Mom hello for me.
I remember coming up to see one of your school plays. Something about mice and cheese and you sang a song about all kinds of cheeses...lol. Your teacher at the time had cancer. I hope things went well for her!
Really?
I saw them last Wednesday... the 20th!!
and you're right.. THEY WERE AMAZING!!
I absolutely love them!
My best friend kind of instilled this obsession of them in me lol!
Hey Peyton! Once I get the ball rolling with the walkathon I'll give your mom a ring! How is school going?? I hope you and your family are doing well :) KIT
Hello Peyton: You might not remember me but I am Jeff Woytovich, my wife Betsy and I started the Children's Alopecia Project. Our daughter is Madison and we came to one of your families meetings when you were 9 and Maddie was just 5. You look so grown up I don't think Maddie would even know it was you when she sees your pictures here. Please take care of your self and keep up the good work. Say hi to your Mom and family from CAP.
Dear Peyton:
Hi, I'm Cynthia and my daughter is Taylor-Jean. It has been a very long time since we have been active on Alopecia world so I've just read your comment from Oct. 28th. Anyways, my daughter began her trip with alopecia when she was 2. She is now 1 month away from 9 years old and she is still having a hard time. She is very hard to talk to. She keeps everything inside but we know that her heart is breaking inside. There seems to be so much in the States, but here in Canada, she hasn't even been able to see another child with alopecia. I really wish we lived in the states sometimes so that i could take her to all the functions that take place and she could meet other kids....such as yourself. As I'm sitting here typing and listening to your music, I feel like I'm sitting with Taylor-Jean as she spends ALOT of time listening to music and all the same stuff that you have playing on your page. COOL! Anyways, I'd love to have her send a note to you and maybe she might have some questions for you...if that's ok. Take care, Cynthia
