Hi Lexi, The #5 picture is the "Cameron" by Rene of Paris. Hope that helps!

  • Alliegator

Yes, I cannot wait!! I'm hoping that my favorite wig website offers them soon so I can try one. The hard part will be which one, and which color. :)

    Hi Lexi,
Heat & humidity are tough when wearing wigs (I used to live in Atlanta). what I like about the IWig is it can be sized to fit your head, the hair is gorgeous (either virgin, non-processed, or processed), they're well made. I use mine for playing golf as I don't want to fade my Freedom Hair vacuum wig. Care is easy - I pin to a styrofoam head, then shampoo & condition. I also add some Moroccan Hair Oil. Call Erica at IWig for more info. They now offer wigs with silicone strips added in the base for more security.
    Good luck & take care,
    Rose

    Hi Lexi

there are a lot of women in our position. It's hard but speaking to you has made me feel better. Have you tried using hair fibers? I have been using it to cover up the loss.

I will keep u updated on how i go with the wig. I know what you mean about the caps... You're in a way lucky that the weather permits for it.

I think we have to make ourselves strong enough to accept support from people around us and not to care about what others think. There will always be cruel people but that cruelty comes from their own insecurity.

Stuff them! I know its easier said then done but thats the secret to all of this i think.

Thank you for all of your advice and support :)

How is your husband dealing with all of this? Has he been supportive?

    Take care of yourself Lexi

    Thank you so much(*^^*)
I see Mount Fuji from my house. In addition, please watch a photo.

    Hi Lexi

I use toppik. You're very lucky that you can still go out with your own hair :) i don't think that i could. I have to use it even though you're right it probably does look a bit odd. Hey my appointment is getting closer - on monday i will go in for the wig consultation. I'm very scared, I hope that ill make the right decision and not purchase something that I wont wear.

  • Wendy

I do....and actually until yesterday I didn't realize that it was a certain "type" of alopecia. I find the doctors are rather useless in knowing anything about it.
I luckily have a lot of hair, so even though it has spread up quite high, I still have my own hair to cover it...I used to have really long hair though, and recently cut it all off, b/c I couldn't stand all the shedding with long strands! Funny thing is that since I have cut it, people can't stop talking about how great it looks, which feels so weird to me b/c I never would have chosen this cut if I wasn't half bald!

Anyways, I am still half in denial I think that I would ever lose all of my hair and I mostly just try not to think about it :)
Thanks for commenting...happy holidays to you as well.

Thanks so much Lexi, that really means a lot!

It is called Nordip (Amlodipine) for blood pressure it's the only thing I can put it down to.

  • Erin

Thank you for the comment! Sorry I just saw it now :) I order most of my wigs online. I get different ones and different blondes lately. Usually a lighter, warm blonde. My usual brands are Revlon and Jon Renau. I have been looking into new options lately though!

  • The Victor Book

Even though I no longer worry about how others look at me because of the wig, I still know how awful I look underneath it. I'm grateful I have the wig but I also resent having to wear it.

  • Tallgirl

See my note to you on Over-50 group page.

  • Kate Bennet

Thank you for the comment, Lexi! :) Ahh, I wrote Matt yesterday and he replied today. I might actually buy a wig from him, though I'm not sure yet about the quality of remy hair, and whether I might get too hot. But I might just go for it. I really hope I'll like it. Would be sucha pity if I don't, and all the money spent o.O

  • Sue T

Thanks for the nice comment Lexi. I don't know what the Sandra Wilson thing is about, I never responded as I'm quite suspicious of invitations like this unless I feel I have got to know the person first or they have an on line history and the contact is safe from scammers and spammers

  • Amy-Rose

    Hi there,

Picture 5 is of my natural hair, before it all fell out...I've ordered a freedom though, and I'm hoping it will look pretty much the same. Thank you anyway! :)

  • Erin

    Thank you!
  • Carolyn

    Lexi:
I liked my first Cyberhair, second and third not so much. It was maybe better than a $100 synthetic wig, but doesn't even come close to a Freedom Wig. I can't believe I waited as long as I did to buy one. I was so afraid Freedom would be hot and uncomfortable....but it's just the opposite. It's just like my contact lenses...I totally forget I'm wearing a wig!!! You will pay almost as much for a Cyberhair wig, as for a freedom piece, and they just aren't comparable!!!

Thank you for your kind words! I just sent you a message to answer some of your questions. Happy to share information with you! Best, Kim

  • Jennah

I like your profile pic :) Did you paint it?

  • Jennah

    lol :)

  • Bananarama

Thanks Lexi for your kind words. Your message was a lovely reminder to update my profile! I got married in July and I also purchased my first wig (although I'm still reluctant to wear it and I'm relying on my favourite baseball cap for now!). I thought my hair loss pattern was so strange, until I found some pics of ophiasis and finally was able to say "that looks like me!" It's nice to be a part of your group.

  • VanillaPlum01

I go to joseph paris in nyc on Madison avenue. Quite pricey but the do have nice wigs. I am actually looking for something that fits my budget more. Where are you from?

  • Vicki

    Hi Lexi,
We buy our daughter's wigs at Pierre Amelotte. They're costly, but last a couple years and can be styled, straightened and are very versatile. We've been getting them there for the last three years. They're also custom fitted.
  • Tracy M

It is holding up great. I still am wearing the one I got 1 yr. ago. And my other is about 6 months old. I have to wear it everyday. It is the best that I've come across especially for the price. It was about 1200. I never blow dry, but I do flat iron it occasionally. I have pictures if u want to see. My profile picture is old. It's before I wore gemtress.
  • Tracy M

They all are hot to me but not as hot as the prosthetic ones that are completely silicone. It's compares to a full lace wig which is basically what this is except around the edges. It's just top quality hair and hardly no shedding or tangling. I use organix shampoo from Walmart and that's all I use except a comb out conditioner - it's a 10.i occasionally flat iron it. For the money, it would be hard to find one of this quality. I've had all kinds. I have been wearing wigs since I was 13. I'm now 45. Go to my page and look at my photos. If you want more, let me know. And the people from lori's wig site are legite. I've been ripped off so many times. I trust them.
  • Tracy M

Been there. It still hurts. But they made me a better and stronger person. I've had guys in school do that, then years later asked me out. What an idiot!
  • Elaine

Hi, Lexi. I'm in the Riverview/Brandon area, but work in (almost West) Tampa. My derm thinks I have Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia. So far I've lost substantial portions of my eyebrows, with a little thinning noticeable along my hairline. And general thinning overall on my scalp. It's manageable with makeup. I'm having trouble imagining what it's like to wear wigs in this climate! I used to love these 80+ degree days, but I'm excited about it cooling off when it does now.
  • Elaine

I never discuss any of my health concerns with coworkers! Too much gossip. Yuck!

My hair loss pattern is typical of FFA, but my derm ordered blood work for the autoimmune antibodies that sometimes show up with this condition. I'm still waiting on that to come back. I see Dr. Lance Kane, but he mentioned that there's someone at USF who he might refer me to if I want to try any advanced/experimental therapies. I like Dr. Kane because he's curious and doesn't just dismiss my concerns (my GP just passed it off as age-related hair loss, even though I'm in my 30s) He's just suggested Vitamin D & Biotin supplements and Latisse for my eyebrows, none of which has worked for me. Thankfully I found a good eyebrow pencil that doesn't make me break out. And the hair on my scalp looks ok with good styling, so I haven't tried wigs yet.

  • Amy-Rose

    Hi Lexi,

The wig in those two photos is a Freedom Wig from Freedom Hair (custom vacuum sealed human hair piece). If you'd like to know more I can point you towards a very helpful lady from Freedom - And yes that is a real tattoo on my neck, thanks :)
  • Marlina

Hi Lexi! Thanks for reading my blog. Yes it seems many people do have problems keeping their synthetic wigs for longer than a few months. I have had experiences like this with other synthetics. And the Spicy was really on its last legs when it came around to that two year point, but I think the right kind of conditioner matched with the right kind of anti-frizz and straightener can really extend the life of an hd synthetic. I also trimmed it myself when the fraying got beyond repair, so it was a couple inches shorter by the end of its time... I plan on blogging about how I wash and treat my wigs to keep them lasting longer. Thanks for checking it out!

Thank you Lexi! This is Raquel Welch Showstopper and the color is copper mahogany.  It is heat resistant so it can also be curled.

  • Jennah

Thanks Lexi :) Well number 25 is my hair before I started losing it. I have naturally curly hair but was straightened :) Will just check the others and let you know what they are :)

  • Jennah

Pic 6 is a lockshop mermaid pink wig, 44 is also my hair before hair loss and 46 is Erica by Amore :)

    Hey Lexi,

Thanks for stopping by to say hello. Maybe Chat will reopen. Might have to have a moderator this time around.

All is good here. Hope you find a nice cool spot to chill in!

    Hugz!

Hello! I have gone to a place in New Port Richey for years. I have tried Abbys twice but never got any return calls. The other place you mentioned I have not called. The last wig I purchased had several "manufactur changes" that I was not made aware of prior to the purchase not to mention a HUGE price hike..so its time to start looking. I am used to custom/ human hair..I have found a lot of places dont do custom orders. Any place on your side that you like?
  • BLee

Hi Lexi, thank you for the nice comment on my blonde wig. I got this one from Paula Young catalogue! It's called "Liberty" it's synthetic but real inexpensive! I think it was $49 to $59! I have been wearing wigs for 26 years and have tried so many! From real custom @$3000 to synthetics that are $29. I like the different styles so I switch out every 3 months or so. I don't like when they start to get frizzy on the ends so I buy new often! It doesn't seem to matter what shampoo or conditioner I use it's hard to keep the wig real soft!
    You can check out PaulaYoung.com
    Hope this helps!

Hey Lexi, thanks for adding me as a friend, I'm new to AW. My alopecia started 3 months ago out of the blue (Iv always had very long and very thick hair until now!). I am experiencing exactly the same as you- no hair now below and behind my ears and the hair on top is getting thinner and thinner so harder to cover. I hav lots of stubble in the hair I have left, possibly exclamation point hair!? Is this caused by the AA? It's nice to meet someone else with Ophiasis. How is your hair now? Do you have any tips?
  • NewDay

Thanks Lexi, Ill take the compliments where i can get them these days! Hows it going?

  • Mindy

Hi Lexi- Yes, I suppose you would call them ethnic wig stores. Anyone can wear them though. There are all styles and colors.

  • JeffreySF

    Hey Lexi,

All is good here. Sorry you can't make the Conf next year!

    Hi Lexi,

I bought my Fortune Wig in Sept 2014.  It is the Mazali style, 14" length.  My wig did not look real thick but I did have it thinned out some and cut in a shag type.  As far as the wig being hot, I don't see any difference.  When I lived in FL I had my bio hair and when it was hot my head was hot too!  Now I live in TN on the Plateau so our weather is much milder.  I could never get the courage to shave my head so I keep what hair I have in a short pixie.  This may have something to do with the comfort level of wearing the wig.  I could not be happier with the way this wig has held up.  I wash it often and let it dry naturally over night. It has not faded and I still haven't noticed hair falling out.  I use to do trail challenges with my horse but now we are learning to heard cattle.  My wig does not slide on my head and blows in the wind like bio hair.  The Follea rep that I ordered my other wig through recommended a WiWig band to help make the wig feel secure so I use it with my Fortune wig too.  When I purchased the Mazali I called them and the lady told me about this wig.  I had to order an extra small cap in the Follea but I took a small in the Fortune.  The sales person did sew in the silicone(?) non slip pads which must help.  The wig arrived in a nice zipper carry bag and extra silicone.  I will definitely order another wig from them.

  • Nave

You are welcome.  As a wig wearer we are always looking for a good wig and comfort is so important!  If you ever hear of anything else let me know.  Happy Holidays :-)

  • Lauren@CornerofHopeandMane

Hi Lexi - I have two Ellen Wille's, Code Mono and Mega Mono. I don't wear wigs full time as I'm still rocking the Milan topper, but I do wear them on the weekends sometimes. I've washed both several time and the fiber has held up really well. I'd say it's on par if not slightly better than Noriko fiber (believe it's all made by Alderans anyways). Hope that helps!

Hi Lexi, it's the Scarlet by John Reneau, I also have the Julianne by John Reneau, which looks very similar, but is all hand tied monofilament. The Scarlet is a standard open weft cap wth a lace front it's the less expensive sister wig to the Julianne. They are both extensively reviewed by folks on YouTube if you want to see other regular people wearing them. I usually get my wigs from Wigs.com.

Hi Lexi. No im still searching as well. I wore "Tatum" for a bit. Now "Codi" not all that happy with. I cut the bangs and I think they look awful. Color isn't right as well. It's creamy toffee. Darker blonde then my hair. It does fool people however. I'm looking for one I can feel pretty in. Hasn't happened yet. Anxious over my first summer sporting a wig. Huge adjustment. Not as free as before. Hopefully in time. I want to warn you about human hair wigs. They behave like human hair. I paid $1200 for a Jon Renau washed it once. It looks a mess even after I took it to get styled. The blondish hair is all fried looking. They saw me coming... So the search is still on. All local shops are stocked with permatease wigs. I don't care for permatease. Now I'm paying restocking fees/shipping etc.

Hello Lexi, I do not order off a website. To me it was all to confusing and difficult and for that reason after one year of corresponding with 6 factories in Qingdao China I decided  I needed to go there and meet the owners and managers. Now when order I know exactly who I am dealing with and my orders go without a hitch. They send me pictures of the cap before hair is installed and then after so that I might view it before it goes in the mail. I buy for my daughter who is 27 years old who wears her hair long and color #4. I measure her head about 10 times to be sure that the cap fits properly and make sure density is such that she is not warm or it looks like a helmet. Helping other with Alopecia is my passion. I am glad to help you if you would like. You can email me at georged5050@gmail.com and I would be glad to send you pictures of the wigs I have had made and caps without hair for you to view. These are human hair, Chinese, Mongolian or European Quality hair. I truly believe that if I was lucky enough to find this factory and have become very close with the owner that I must help others so they can live their lives to the fullest. All my best Lisa
