Hi. Daniele. My name is Mark and I live on the east side of MIlwaukee WI. My hair started to fall out in the 4th grade and by 7th grade I had little left except a few patches, that were ripped out by bullies on a few occasions. My parents bought me my first wig when I was about 15 and I wore one for abut 30 years, until I took it off for good about 6 yrs ago. Tne wig did not really my social life at all because all I did was to hide under it. And I missed countless chamces over the years by choosing not to approach women bec I figured that if I told them they would be turned off. So I guess that is why I am still alone 56, as I have been all of my life. I dont know what I can say to comfort you sweetheart accept ask you to, hang in there, choose your friends wisely, those who accept you for who you are. And if it at all possible, try to explain to people when you can, about your condition. Spread the word, so to speak. I am 56 and I get double takes evey day on the bus, etc. Over the years many people have thought I look strange bec I do not have any eye brows or eye lashes, which I could not cover up even when I wore a wig. They dont necessarily know what is missing on my face, just that look different. And I cannot stop and tell every one that, I don't have cancer, I have, etc. I don't know if I will ever really get "used to it" but I have to accept it. And the more that others do, the better off I/we all will be. Take care sweetheart. Mark Hansen
Hi my name is Mark Hansen. I read a comment by someone on here where he said that he thought that his hair loss was the result of some kind of stress. Well he's right. That is what a lot of doctors over the years have said, that for some reason Alopecia (a biologocal mal function of/in the immune system) also know as, "when the body attacks itself" is triggered by some type of extreme stress on the body that throws something out of whack. I was bullied terribly, when I was younger, even before I found I had Alopecia. So that could have been the stresser. I know a young woman, now in her twenties, who had some kind of a stroke when she was a kid and she has it. The only sure thing about this condition is its unpredicability. Mark Hansen
