- Hello everyone! I'm 19 and am a second year student at the University of Ottawa. I was diagnosed with alopecia a few months ago. On October 25th, 2007 I woke up and went to the bathroom, only to see that half of my left eyebrow had fallen out. Right now, my left eyebrow is gone and the hair on my head is rapidly falling out, although my eyelashes and right eyebrow are still intact. Having never heard of the disease prior to being diagnosed, the whole thing has caused quite a disruption in my life, to say the least! Everyday is a struggle but I hope that meeting people here and learning about their journeys will help me with mine!
Obviously alopecia is not the only thing I have going on in my life (although sometimes I feel like it is!)... I love musical theatre, fastball, writing, and traveling. In 2005 I spent three months in Paris as a foreign exchange student, and I went back this summer with my best friend. I moved nine hours away from home to live in Ottawa last September for university and I love living here, although sometimes it's hard to be so far away from my family and friends, especially since I was just diagnosed in December 2007.

You are not alone girl :0) I just got diagnosed 1 month ago and have now shaved my head!! I couldn't stand the bald spots or the handfulls of hair falling out daily. It was the most liberating thing iv'e even done in my life. I can't believe how much it has changed my life...for the good!!! I know it's hard...but try and remind yourself it's only hair. Keep in touch!!
