- I am a pastor, a storyteller, and a teacher. I have been involved with community theater for most of my life.And I have alopecia but alopecia does not have me. I recently completed a children's book about a little girl with alopecia. I first decided to rid myself of my hair in 2007. Much of it grew back. A few months ago, however, I started having problems again. My friend set me free, again, with the clippers Sunday July 12,2009. Below is a blog I wrote when I made my initial decision to stop covering up and go bald.
I Am Not My Hair
Current mood: optimistic
Anybody who knows me personally is aware of the fact that I have never had any problem growing my hair. Depending on my mood it could be long, short, in between, and braided, natural,or permed. Recently my godson Espiah, on my top friends list was diagnosed with cancer and started undergowing chemotherapy. My dred locked godchild was forced to cut his hair and is now bald. As I have attempted to encourage him I have been forced as well to confront my own recent hair loss. I have alopecia and the hair that always grew back is nolonger growing back. I detest wearing wigs and I am strongly considering shaving my head. I chose to come out about this on MySpace to assist in some sort of personal inner healing and perhaps serve as inspiration to others who are dealing with similar situations. Those strands of hair falling out by the handful do not represent the real me. Sisters, brothers, I am not, you are not, we are not, my, your, our hair. The real us is on the inside. Hair or no hair we have been fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of the Almighty God!

Welcome to the family. I was discussing with a haired friend how sometimes I think that we are the descendents of the aliens that the Native Americans drew on the cliffs out west. Our ancestors intergrated with the humans on earth. As time goes on our alienistic looks pop up (baldness) - thus Alopecia! ta da! teehee! I know I'm whacked out. But it is a fun laughable thought.
