- Hi, i'm sandra, i'm 45 years old, totally bald and fed up! I live in Maesteg, just outside Bridgend, in South Wales. I am happily married, have 2 children. I work as a social care worker which is what i have done for the last 15 years. This is the second time that i have lost my hair, first time was when i had an overactive thyroid which wasn't treated appropriatley at the time, only lost it on the top then though, saw a dermatologist who told me that i had alopecia. I was devastated, thought that my world was comming to an end, kept thinking why me? I was put on medication for the thyroid and it grew back, nothing like it was before i lost it. It was so thin that i couldn't do anything with it. Over a period of time it went even thinner and fell out. That was 2 years ago, seems like its not comming back either. The worse thing about having alopecia is not being able to find a wig to fit me. A couple of weeks ago i recieved the raquel welch dixie pixie wig, i got to say i've never been so upset, it was awful. Over the last couple of years i must have spent thousands on different wigs, due to the size issue that i seem to have. Since then i've discovered Peri Wigs in Cardiff through the internet. I've been down to see them, in the next couple of weeks i am hoping to be fitted for the Freedom Wig, i got to say it's the first time in ages that i am feeling excited. I have read the reviews regarding these wigs they sound AWSUM. I cant wait. I will keep in touch and let you all know how i am getting on. Thanks again for all the support, knowing that i'm not the only one with this problem has helped me a lot.

I know how hard it can be. I have had alopecia for about 30 years. After I became the spokesperson for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation, a lot of women were needing my help and support, so I wrote a book called, "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!"
