I'm the mom of a 12-year-old girl that has recently been diagnosed with alopecia areata. This is after almost 3 years of hair loss and regrowth cycles with no answers. It feels good just to have an answer! So glad to have found this site!

Hi Traci,
I've talked to a lot of women who have daughters with alopecia. It's really tough. I have written a book and I have a chapter dedicated to that. You might find some answers there...to find out more, go to my page.
Take care.

I'm also a senior nursing student....I am busily preparing a presentation on AA for my advanced med-surg class on wednesday....this is how I came across this site! This is fantastic. I can't wait to browse through when I have more time.... Thanks for the warm welcomes :) My daughter's name is Jessica. Up until recently she had been handling it well. Now, at 12, she is starting to really become self-conscious about it and is wearing ball caps and fixing her hair different. We recently opted for a shorter cut, because as it is right now, we think she's in a period of regrowth and the short cut helps to blend in and disguise what's missing. Hopefully we will be back often!
Hi Traci..I am Cindy, mom to a 6 yr old with AA...We are currently trying some treatment and hoping for the best..How is your daughter dealing with her AA? see you around the boards.Cindy
