Hi, not much to tell really, i,ve had AU since the age of 12. must admit it was all a bit crazy there for a while. Now i,m at the age of 32 i can hardly see what all the fuss was about. I,ve got two beautiful kids (heads full of hair) and wife. I to felt very alienated as a young fella and am keen to help out and share my experience.
Hey Wade, sorry it took me so long to get back to you, but I haven't been on the site for a while. Thanks for your message! It's good to meet some other Aussies with Alopecia out there. I developed it about 2 years ago now. Was pretty hard at first, but as you say after a while it doesn't seem as big a deal. My Bro lives in perth, up near Cottesloe. I'm in Canberra myself and often wonder why I don't go live at the beaches in WA,
Anyway, hope you're well and hear from you later.

hi susan,
sorry i haven't returned a comment, we've been pretty busy moving house and things lately. hope things are going ok. i see on your profile the young fella looks like he 's into his music, thats cool. i play music also, have done for years now, i find it very relaxing. not a worry in the world when i'm jamming out with my friends.
i've just posted a couple of pictures today but i can't seem to get my profile picture up yet. i,ve got a few photo's of myself when i was jons age he might be able to relate to.

Hi Wade, I wanted to welcome you to Alopecia World. I can honestly say that we are a great community here and I hope you enjoy the time you spend with us.
Wade,
Good on you. I'm glad that you feel the way you do about what you have achieved in your life. Not everyone can say that!
Yes, you should be proud and yes so should Jon as he is a very special person. I am proud of him and i tell him so.

Wade,
Thanks for replying and the advice. I'll pass on your comment to Jon. I believe that, yes, his perception of himself is what is holding him back. He doesn't feel that he looks good and so thinks everyone else will think the same. He still has to come to terms with having Alopecia.
As for yourself - it's never to late if you want to go back and educate yourself. My husband did a degree, distance ed, when our children were younger. It is hard work but if you really want to do it you might like to think about it. I have a daughter doing a Bachelor of Music at Uni and she has said that there are alot of older people doing degrees now. There is one who is in his 70's doing the same course as she is.
You mention in your profile info feeling alienated - was that self imposed because you didn't feel comfortable? Do you feel the same way now?
Again, thanks for the support
Susan
Hi Wade,
How are you? Welcome to Alopecia World. Hope you find the site good. I have received alot of support since i joined just a few weeks ago.
My son Jon is 12 and has had AA since he was 6. He now has only white fuzz. He is finding it hard relating to other kids at school and has refused to go to school since the start of this school term. He is currently in Year 7, first year of High School. How did you deal with it when you were his age? Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.
