My beau likes to give me an orchid on special occasions (I love their delicate beauty, graceful stems, leatherly leaves and beautiful blooms), and over the years I've tried many times unsuccessfully to get a second round of flowers out of them :-(

I had set a side one tired, neglected faded orchid on the landing in our back hallway and had pretty much forgotten about it. Its one leaf was shriveling and the last stem was leaning terribly. I figured it was time to ditch it, I even hadn't watered it in about 6 months.... shame on me.

To my surprise and delight this little guy has managed to hang-on! It has new root shoots creeping up from the mulch and 2 new branch stems with multiple flower blooms emerging!!!! I really don't how it has managed to survive.....

I lovingly cleaned its old and withered leaf, trimmed the shriveled stem, gave it a watering and a misting. I will see if I am rewarded with new flowers in the upcoming months.

Sometimes I feel like that orchid.

Orbit, my favorite is orchids too. rj just bought me a plant and so far so good. I am FAR from a greenthumb and usually kill every plant left in my care.

I can see how you can make the relationship to your orchid. For many years I felt weathered, forgotten and ignored. Then one year, somehow through all the "stuff" I started to sprout again. I am praying I keep that resilence throughout my life, I can only assume that life will always bring it ups and downs.

yes too much watering often kills them . I would say you need to water it tops 1x every 3 weeks in winter. I love orchids and have two! My first one is about to flower for the third time, im very excited. xx p.s orchid "food" from a garden centre is very good.

Six months with no water!! Amazing story. I often wonder why I'm still here....never really planned
on living this long.
