I booked an appointment with a stylist who cuts wigs earlier this week and saw her this morning. I was planning on getting a new wig in the near future but don't quite have the money raised yet and with back to school and all, it's not going to happen for a little while longer. I had to cut down on the frizz my wig had though, it was looking real bad and I think most people can actually tell it's a wig. So we shortened it a bit and got rid of the frizz and I got my bangs cut too which is great because I never bothered to get it styled after I got it.
The stylist was great though! She was very eager to learn about alopecia. Most of her clients are coloured women who use extensions and whatnot so she didn't know a great deal. I taught her about the hair's natural life cycle and the different stages of alopecia. We talked about how hard it can be for some people to get jobs based on their hair's appearance (she actually asks all of her clients who get dreads if their work allows them this). We talked about traction alopecia and support groups. I now realize why people love going to get their hair cuts - people form strong relationships with their stylists!
Anyways she was telling me about her supplier for hair products who apparently sell a fair deal of extensions and wigs. I have to look into this further but she was telling me I can get wigs on clearance for under $100. If I find anything interesting I will certainly let all you Canadians know.
