i hope no one takes this the wrong way and i mean no disrespect because i have dealt with the emotional pain and the physical embarrassment of alopecia for years during an fragile time in my life. i don't know if a coincidence or not but when i first got alopecia i was about 12 years old and i struggled with it for the next 5 yrs. it wasn't until i was 17 when i started to smoke pot. 6 months later it was gone. the doctor said i just grew out of it but I'm not sure now because i just lost my job and quit smoking so i could find another. Guess what showed back up a three weeks after i quit? you guess it. maybe it just helps me with stress which many believe is one of causes of alopecia idk. i guess what I'm curious of is if anyone smokes and still has alopecia? Again no disrespect and sorry if i offend anyone with this blog.

I am going to pass this one by son the med student. Interesting but I do think it may have a stess link in your case. I think there are different triggers for everyone. In my daughter's case I believe it was viral.

I've smoked pot for quite a few years and I still have hair loss. I'd say your hair loss could be stress and the pot is mellowing you out :) I wish pot helped with my hair loss but it does make me forget about it for a bit. But awesome for you if pot helps.

I believe smoking pot gave me some regrowth. I think it helped with my alopecia, but not with my anxiety. I haven't smoked in about a year and my severe alopecia areata is close to totalis. I'm pretty sure if I started smoking again I would see at least some regrowth. It is a well-known fact that marijuana helps autoimmune diseases, and inflammation, so it makes sense that it would help counteract the effects of alopecia.

I asked my med student son and he does not believe that it would help. He thinks it is coincidence and the studies related to pot and autoimmune do not have a wide enough data base.

Thanks for the professional opinion Karen, but, at least anecdotally, it has proved beneficial for many in conditions ranging from Multiple Sclerosis to Alopecia.

By the way, Karen, I'm not suggesting you encourage your daughter to "Toke-up", I'm a college student and focusing on my studies gives me no time to smoke.

thanks everyone for the comments and not judging me because I've done the shots, cremes, tar, lights, and back around again for years. i am in no way trying to promote drugs. i just wanna see people healthy and happy. i know how much the FDA drugs don't cure just take away the symptoms prolonging diseases and won't approve any medicine that's natural because they can't make money off of it. i was doing some research and found a good article. http://www.medindia.net/news/Cannabis-can-Help-to-Treat-Allergies-A...

i would work my entire life for free if it meant i could cure the world from this one disease that i've suffered with, maybe you wouldn't but i would gladly. money over morals, ignorance over reason, i never said it was a cure just that it helped me and like i said i don't condone illegal drugs, but you have to understand i drug is a drug just because you have to go to a doctor then a pharmacist which gets there drug from a pharmaceutical company which are run by scientist and doctors. around and around we go. you might be moving but your not getting anywhere. when you get a little older you might understand a few things but for now i wouldn't try to sound smart. it's fine to disagree but you don't have to be condescending and i hate money and what people are willing to do for it.

Hey Ryan, I know how stressful it is to be going through it.
This is my personal opinion only: Do not use any of the normal drugs given by doctors. Like those stupid shots or creams. MY ADVISE IS TO SEE A HERBAL/NATURAL doctor. I am seeing one now and so far, it has helped. I used the old school home remedies to stop my bald spots from spreading and it worked.
About using pot, I say use it if it takes your stress away. Stress is the number one killer. My mom had cancer and her doctor and surgeon both told her it was from stress.
I do not smoke or use pot, cause I go to the gym to calm myself. But pot is a great benefit to alot of people. Pot may help to reduce your stress, so if you like it then use it. Also, it has alot of medical benefits. When ever you are in this situation, you need to take care of yourself, so who cares what people think. If it helps you then use it.
