My son Max is 2 and has been diagnosed with alopecia since he was 15 months old. He is completely bald and has lost all of his eyelashes and eyebrows. I am wondering if anyone could give me advise on how to help his eyes from becomming so irritated. Also. sunblock has become a problem too since it gets in his eyes when he swims (even the waterproof kind) I feel so badly for him and I want him to be able to enjoy himself outside this summer. He does wear a hat but doesn't want to keep it on when it's really warm out. Please posts any ideas you may have to make Max's summer better. Thank You.

Hi Rebecca. I’ve also had problems with “waterproof” sunscreen running into my eyes when I swim, or even when I’m out running or something and it sweats down into them. My first suggestion is to keep trying different kinds as some are better than others. Right now I’m using Coppertone Sport, which isn’t as bad as the other ones, but I really do think I’m still going to try something else. My only other suggestion for swimming is to try some goggles as they may keep the sunscreen out, and I remember as a kid I used to always love being able to see underwater.

As far as the eyes getting irritated, I’m guessing you’re meaning by dust and dirt from being outside, which is a major pain for me. I try to wear sunglasses as much as possible, and I’m sure you could find a pair that will make him look “cool” and that he might enjoy wearing as well.

I’ll let you know if I find a better sunscreen, and I’m hoping some other people will post some advice as I still have trouble with these things too.
