I went back to the dermatologist today for a follow up after my first round of steroid shots 8 weeks ago. She said she does see a little bit of regrowth! Although it's just a little, and the other hairs are still coming out like crazy, I'm still going to go ahead and shave/buzz it all off on NY Eve. I figure it's a good way to ring in the new year, which I can't wait for. 2009 hasn't been kind to me, with a bad breakup after 9 years, the passing of my Grandfather, after his short, but hard battle with blood and bone cancer, and of course my beginning stages of Alopecia Areata.

So, back on track... The visit did go ok, although she upped the shots today. I had 5 last time, in my big spot, then a topical for the smaller few. Since the smaller ones have gotten so much bigger, and I've gained a few new ones, she upped the dosage, and gave me 15 shots. Ouch, ouch, ouch times 15. The numbing agent is still active, but I know that once it wears off, I'm going to be hurting for a few days. I remember the pain that came later in the day after 5 shots, so I can only imagine how this is going to be. :o(

I haven't been as active on AW as I'd like lately, but I do work retail, and it's that time of year... I really can't wait for it to be over, so I can get back to the things I need to do.

Thanks to all, for your continued support, and I hope you all are having a fantastic holiday season. Stay safe, and be well during this time!

I'm not quite ready to shave yet. My hair loss seems to have slowed if not stopped, and I still have about 10-20% of it, with coverage all over, just extremely thin. I am hoping by NYE I will actually see evidence of regrowth. I'm quite pleased with this, because if it had continued as it was, I was prepared to be bald by Christmas. Not sure about continuing with the Biotin, but it can't hurt. You might wanna put a little cap in the freezer to cool your head for with the anesthetic wears off. Good luck!

What kind of shots do you get? The ones I have had felt like a little prick (almost like acupuncture) and were slightly tender for a few hours but not at all what I would call painful. I did not get any numbing agents beforehand and I couldn't count how many as he did them so fast. I wonder if this treatment is something different.

I'm sorry to hear about losing your grandfather....cancer is one of the hardest things to watch a loved one go through. Also sorry about the breakup and the hair thing on top. You have had alot to go through and yet your smile shines through. This has not been my best year either with medical problems and im also planning to shave soon. I wish you well with that and hopefully 2010 will be a better year!

Intersting about your shots. I can't count the number I get because my derm does them so fast. Some hurt a LOT. No topical numbing ever offereed (Yay! my former derm now takes my insurance aagain and I am going back to him this week. Never have seen him for AA, though, so not sure how I will rate him after this visit). The derm I started with when AA came on me in May is pretty cavalier with his syringe and I think that if he did take his time it would just be pinches not not painful jabs. I have very little tenderness the next day, and only have pain when he actually bruises me. Great guy, huh? I am glad to be finished with him!
