Another update from me...
After a few weeks of feeling really low, I have been feeling a lot more positive recently. I don't really know what the turning point has been but I'm hoping that it lasts.
I went to see the private dermatologist again last week and she said that she was very encouraged by the amount of regrowth in my two biggest spots. She said that the best advice that she could give me would be to try to forget about the alopecia, but understood how difficult this can be. I have a good covering of fine white hair in these patches and I'm keeping everything crossed that some thicker dark hair will come through soon.
I haven't seen any new patches starting and, again, I'm keeping everything crossed, that none appear. Hair loss when I'm washing or combing my hair is at "normal" levels so I hope that this continues.
My best friend recommended that I go to see her hairdresser and she has been a godsend so far. She has cut my hair but left enough around the patches so that I can still cover the baldspots. She didn't charge for the appointment either which was so kind of her. She's also going to speak to a friend of hers, a tricologist who lectures in the local college, about what other treatment options there are. Again, I've been touched by the kindness of others.
I'm still using the "dermovate" cream in all of my patches, and my next dermatologist visit in 4 weeks time when I've got the follow up visit with the NHS derm.
It's good to finally post a fairly positive blog!
