Well, so in the past 3 months, I've discovered that wearing a wig is not too traumatic an experience. I screwed up the courage to start wearing the first one I've bought (the bob cut one) to work at the end of April, and I was just absolutely bowled over by all the compliments and comments everyone had! I think I had the biggest ego of my life that day! (Which honestly, I very much enjoyed as I have not had an overabundance of self-esteem in the last many years).

However, I had a little snafu with the wig . It's cut in a bob style and one night I opened the over door...as I bent down the front bottom part swung down and got a little fried from the heat!! So after that I was very conscious of the way that it looked, the ends looked very fuzzy and frizzy. I did find a post online about smoothing out frizzed synthetic hair, by using a fine mist of water, a mist of conditioner, and a curling iron on very low heat, believe it or not!! I was a little worried about trying it, botching it and having nothing to wear, so I decided to get another wig first. (FYI using the curling iron method DID actually work quite well). I wanted something longer (the bob wig kinda sticks out funny from the nape of my neck and doesnt look natural to me) and something more full, more thick. I browsed online and found a new line of Raquel Welch wigs that you can actually style with low heat - flat iron it out, or wear it wavy or curly! I went to my local store, and they had only a few in stock because it was selling so fast, and besides blonde (which I cannot wear, its not flattering because I am so pale) they had the one color that I would probably have ordered - a very pretty natural brown with highlights, much like my first wig. I tried it on, and fell in love with it. :)
They were selling it for $150 and I really didnt have that much money to spend, so the saleswoman told me that they would honor internet prices, if I found it cheaper. So we drove home and after a bit, I found it on one of the wig websites for $125 and they had a coupon that brought it down to $107! I printed it out and took it to the store, and they sold it to me for that price!! It was cheaper than my first wig, and much better quality. It fits much better too, it feels more secure.

I've had it for about 2 weeks now. It is the one I have on in my new profile photo. I have to say I really love it! I even got a compliment on it from a waitress in a restaurant! I haven't worn it to work yet, not sure why. It almost seems too.... I don't want to say "sexy" or "vampy" but something along those lines. Its like a "nighttime" look compared to the conservative daytime bob look. LOL! and I love it curly like it is. I want to try flat-ironing it out straight, because I loved that look in the photos too, but I'm scared that I wouldn't be able to get the same lovely curls back in! (Obviously I don't know much about doing hairstyles as I haven't had hair for years!!)

The biggest downside I've found to wearing the wigs is the freaking HEAT here in Florida. Just being out in the sun for a small while (and by small while I'm talking about something like walking from the car into a store - or getting into the car after its been sitting out in the heat all day and is an oven inside) is very irritating. Being out in the heat long enough to sweat makes it all itchy and annoying to have on. So, I'm limiting my time outside (which isn't a big deal, I always stayed out of the heat anyways because I hate being hot and because I have found heat to be a trigger for the migraines that I sometimes get). I saw there are some kins of sweat liners you can buy...they are kind of expensive though and I wonder how well they work.

So, thats my story up till now. I will probably start wearing the new longer wig to work soon. I showed the photo in my profile to my boss and she flipped out over it, saying how beautiful it was and why aren't I wearing it!! :) Its nice to actually feel "pretty" or even "sexy" - I've never really been vain in my life and havent ever worn a lot of makeup but I find myself looking in the mirror a lot more and playing with makeup now. :)

thats true, about the grass always being greener. I've always wanted to see Colorado, and the Pacific Northwest too. No money for vacations either. I know what you mean about not being able to pick up and move. We've (my fiance and I) have been wanting to move for a few years now, thinking about Atlanta. But my only family (mom & grandma) are here and we live about 45 minutes from them, so that makes it hard.
