I posted a blog previously about a movie called "Happythankyoumoreplease". It is an Indie film so it was in limited release to movie theaters. I live in a large city so I figured it would show in my city. Unfortunately, I was wrong. I guess it only played in NY and LA. So it finally came out on DVD not too long ago, and I finally got to watch it this past weekend. I give it a thumbs up. It was a little better than expected. It had some laughs, and some of the other characters were charming/ funny.
The actor, Josh Radnor, who directed it was also the star, and I was already a fan of his so I thought I would like it. He has a friend in real life with Alopecia so one of the main characters in the movie has Alopecia. The character is played by Malin Akerman. I am also a fan of hers. I felt like she portrayed Alopecia well, but I also thought they could have done more with it. She never wears a wig in the film, and I really liked that. She mainly wears scarfs. It looked like she wore 3 together at one time so I was wishing they would have shown her putting it on, and taking it off to see how she wore 3. In the movie she has a party to talk about Alopecia to her friends. I thought it was cute, but I also felt like they could have done more with it. At the end someone is taking pictures of her outside, and she is bald. She looked happy, and I thought it was so sweet. I thought to myself, maybe that will be me someday.
But in all, I am so glad they had a movie with a character with Alopecia. Maybe it was a stepping stone for more to come. As far as I can remember, I haven't ever noticed a woman who was bald with Alopecia in a movie before. When a woman is bald in a movie, it is typically related to cancer which is sending out a stigmatism for baldness in women. I want to thank Josh Radnor for portraying Alopecia in a movie! Maybe he will do it again in another movie that turns into a blockbuster. In the meantime, I will continue to wear scarves in public in my attempt to create awareness or make a fashion trend! :)
