Hi,
I'm Liz. I've had Alopecia Aerate for.... about 9-10 years now, (I've not really been counting!) And thats okay :) It's been good, and it's been bad, but thats life! School was hard, primary was fine, but moving to secondary school was tough, but you get passed the staring and the awkward questions, and eventually my hair grew enough so that it would hide the patches.

But yet again AA strikes, and yesterday I decided to just get rid of it! I feel in control now!! Yes, people stare, think I have cancer, makes remark they think I can't hear! But, well, AA is a bit f me now, it's my head, if I don't have a problem with it, what gives anyone else the right to pick fault!? Sorry, I'm venting now, today was my first day back at 6th form with no hair. On the whole it wasn't as bad as I thought, most people were either blind, or being very polite :)

Liz, you have an admirable courage. It took me even quite a while before I made the decision to shave the remaining hair off my head.

Dont apologize for venting. I hope people at your school are kinder than the "average" public. All the best...and keep your head high...

Hi Liz!
I think what you did is incredibly brave... i'm in pretty much the same position at the mo... i have more scalp than hair so i know the only way to take control is to shave the last bit off rather than hanging onto it for dear life. I'm looking into getting a Freedom Wig so i'm going to have to shave it off sooner or later.
I hope it has made you feel better now that you have taken control. At least you've shown alopecia whos boss hehe!
Take care, Melinda
