how and when it all falls out...

So I've been having a difficult time with my Alopecia as of late. Started with one patch in Oct 08 and now it was 3.. the first of the ones i noticed has a lot of regrowth, but the hair seems to be falling out from all over.. more of a difussed state.. is this normal?? I know i may lose all my hair but what of the regrowth in one area... is that just false hope? also, does anyone ever get painful areas on their scalps? not just tingling but an area when you press down it feels tender?

I've noticed I've lost close to 50% of my hair density and more and more of my scalp can be seen.. it's getting to the point where I feel it's too noticeable and people stare at me funny because of my hair. I know it's takes a short or even a long period of time before all my hair may fall.. but i'm in a limbo right now.. and even went to go see a special alopecia salon.. where the woman who runs it (who also has alopecia and wears a wig) referred to me as crazy for wanting to shave my head and just get a wig. I just want some sort of control, in a situation where we are helpless.

please let me know your feedback.. much thanks.

Hi Jenn,

Sorry your AA is getting worse! I've had a time or two where mine was all of a sudden getting worse- last Dec. being on of them. I was sure this was it and it was time to get a wig! Even visited a salon like you
mentioned....and then it kind of stabilized and got a little better. I still have several spots though..

I get red tender areas on my scalp when I had a new spot beginning. Sometime I will feel itching or tingling
too almost like the area is "asleep" But nothing I would describe as painful. It's my understanding that it is the immune reaction (increase white blood cells attacking) that cause some inflammation. AS soon as I feel
that I slap some steroid foam on it! I think it helps b.c it seem the earlier I catch a new area the smaller
that area stays.

Hi Jenn,

I felt much more in control and less depressed when I shaved my head after I got to be about 50% bald area. There are photos of the night before I shaved on my page. You might also find it helpful to read some of the posts on the wonderful Sisterhood of Women Who Shaved Their Heads Group - a really nice bunch of ladies. Good luck, Mary

i also feel in limbo and wonder if my regrowth is giving me false hope. Does any one ever get cured from this. I have hope that this is just a stage and since alot of my hair is growing back I feel hopeful that this will all pass. Am i in denial?

Jenn, I am completely in the same boat. I have lost about 50% of my hair. I use Dermamatch www.dermmatch.com it is amazing. Seriously, however, my hair is getting so much worse I am in limbo of how far I can go before I shave. Dermamatch has made such a difference in my life. It takes a couple tries to figureout just the right way to put it on, but when you get it, it looks amazing. You cant tell at all. Hint: put it on when your hair is wet after the shower. Brush and dry. :) I would be interested to know when/ how other people decided to shave their heads?? It is really hard. Do you all brush and wash your hair like normal? I just dont know if im making it worse...

I feel the same less and less hair everytime I wash my hair or comb it. I have noticed that when i feel a little tenderness that means its going to fall out in that area. just ordered a wig to many bald spot to hide, it's been really hard. I go back to working at a school the end of August not sure if I can deel since June its gotting so bad, really tired of wearing so many hats.
