Hi.. I am seeing an Internal Medicine doctor on Thursday because the scalp pain is driving me to near suicide. I can't touch my hair or head and it is worse than the hair loss at times. Are there any questions that I should ask the doctor? Any specific tests? Thanks!

Just curious, are you losing hair anywhere else...eyebrows or legs etc? Do you have any other symptoms? If so, write them ALL down, so when the doctor asks what's wrong you have a laundry list. People with other autoimmune diseases complain about the burning scalp also....hypothyroid(the whole panel) and an ANA(to test for other autoimmune diseases such as lupus) and iron.

There is a test to show the amount of toxic metals in your system. They run it on a hair follicle. I will ask a "medical" friend. And don't even say the word suicide again...please.

Still waiting to hair back from my friend. But unfortunately I found this on WebMD:
Hair Analysis Not Reliable
Some companies claim they can analyze hair clippings to see if you are deficient in vitamins or have health problems. While hair analysis can detect some poisons like lead or arsenic, there are no testing standards. Labs may report different findings from the same hair sample. And everything from air pollution to shampoo can change your hair’s mineral makeup. The American Medical Association is against hair analysis to determine treatment

I had heavy metals tested a few weeks ago in a normal blood work up. All came back negative. The only thing that was abnormal was that my cortisol level was very high. Cortisol is your stress "fight or flight" hormone. When that is elevated it can cause some problems. They told me to keep my stress level at a minimum. Yea, if it were that easy!
