EATING DISORDER..SCALP PAIN..HAIR LOSS..SMOKING

Hi everyone.. I was wondering if any of you either male or female have struggled with eating disorders and what your opinion about a correlation between all this is. My doctors said that even though I am way underweight, my labs are normal and the eating disorder didn't cause the severe scalp pain followed by hair loss. Today my scalp burned SO bad I called my dad in tears and made an appointment to see an Internal Medicine doctor on Thursday. I was wondering what opinions people had on this. I know my hair could have thinned a little from the malnutrition but even when I weighed 57 pounds I never had this type of hair loss and NEVER had scalp pain. I am currently 89 pounds and am 5 foot 3 inches. I have also smoked on and off since the age of 22 and I have increased it so much after this started because of stress. Is there any correlation between smoking and my symptoms? Any suggestions are welcome!

I was wondering if you ever looked up that word i gave you? it seems to follow the same thing you were saying about feeling pain.

Yes I have researched that word many times over the past 5 months! I just don't understand how it could be phantom like pain... It's a hard reality to grasp! I was talking to Kevin Woolen on this site last nite and he said at the conferences that it is not uncommon to feel this burning with hair loss... What's your input? I appreciate you checking in darling!

I have felt that pain before but it didnt last long, i just wanted you to check that out only because i was able to take it to the doctor and say "hey i'm not makign this up its being researched and other people have felt it" because you know the look docs can sometimes give you when they think you lost it lol anyway i will continue to look and hope it calms down for you soon.

Oh, believe me...I got those looks! I appreciate your help! My last dermatologist told me to make an appointment with my psychiatrist and kind of ended it. Ugh... If they only knew!

Exactly... I am going to see a female derm in 2 weeks. I think that being a female, she might have more sympathy for this issue!

This is an older post of yours so hopefully you will see this comment. I too suffer from anorexia nervosa, well im currently in recovery and have been for a year now. I started losing my hair not long after i regained the weight. I dont have really bad scalp pains but can relate. My scalp aches and feels very sensitive. I also am an on and off again smoker and wonder what this eating disorder and substance abuse has created. I have lost 60% of my hair and keep it shaved. It was hard to deal with at the start, you know, why me? but i promise it does get easier.
I think my anorexia would have been behind my hair loss, to some extent anyway. I suffered for 6 years.
I hope to hear back from you, i know your struggle, and you certainly dont have to go through this alone.
Head up babe, brighter days WILL come
xx
