So its been more than a year since my hair loss reached the turning point, the wig point. And at the time, I considered it sort of a death sentence for my future. I mentally kissed goodbye most of the things I wanted most in life, assuming that I couldn't get them in a wig.

As it turns out, I was totally wrong. Its a year later and I'm happier than Ive been in a long time. I'm working at a job I love. My legal troubles are over. And I have an integration system that gives me the hair I always wanted and the freedom to do anything I could do before I lost my hair.

So this is just a quick reminder to anyone newly struggling with alopecia. It gets way better, to borrow Dan Savage's catch phrase. It might seem insurmountable at first, but there are numerous ways now to address it, and you can pick whichever one works best for you. Once you find it, all the other things that went wrong that you blamed on your alopecia will start to improve too. It happened for me.

Andrea, that is great!!  I am now at that turning point and plan on getting a wig after my friends wedding in a few weeks.  I am hoping the new self confidence(once I get over that hump) will help improve my life.  I am afraid though that it will hinder me finding someone to spend my life with, but I think that having the alopecia and worrying all the time about if my bald spots are showing is hindering me from being happy about myself which in turn hinders me finding a man.  So hopefully, really hoping actually, that this change in my life will help everything!

Julie, it most definately will. You'll find a super cute wig that will look fabulous on you. Just add a little confidence and the compliments will come. I got tons of compliments on my "haircut" when I first got my wig and it really helped ease the worry that everyone could tell. If i could give you one piece of advise that I wish Id gotten, it would be to just relax, be happy with the added attention you get, and remind yourself that people are looking at you because you look great, not because "they know." Then you can just enjoy yourself.
