Good morning fellow AW'ers! I have a quick story to share: this morning while I was in the gym locker room the lady next to me asked if I was undergoing chemotherapy. (I don't wear my wig at the gym, just a baseball cap over my bald head, and I'm certainly not shy about going bald in the locker room.) I smiled and said that no, I don't have cancer, but I have alopecia. She said "Oh" and then I realized that she probably didn't know what alopecia was! I forget that alopecia is a somewhat unknown disease, so I briefly explained it to her. She seemd pretty interested, and then she commented on how much she liked my Freedom wig. I told her that I actually appreciate my alopecia now, because all the other women in the locker room (including her) have to spend so much time drying and styling their hair in the morning, and all I have to do is pop on my wig! She said "Rock that wig out, girl!" It was really sweet and I was happy to share my story. I really enjoy educating others about alopecia, and I have definitely started thinking that I would love to work as an alopecia advocate some day in the future. (Maybe for children with alopecia...) Well, I hope you all have a happy start to your week! Keep smiling and don't forget to hold your heads (hair or no hair) high and proud :)
Cheers,
Natalie
