My driver's license is up for renewal, and I've been waiting until I could get a new photo that looks the way I've looked for 3 years - bald! Every time I had to show the old photo ID to someone, it depressed me to see myself with all the hair and my original eyebrows. And, people would look at the photo and just assume all the more that I have cancer.

So, this week I made an appointment and went in to have a new photo taken. They unexpectedly made me take the written test again, but fortunately, I passed.

My new license will not only have a photo of me in all my bald glory, but it says "bald" under hair color. What else could it say?!

Another milestone on my path to self-acceptance achieved! Have any other of you had a driver's license photo taken?

Mary

Great story! I love the "bald" under the "colour" section. lol. My driver's license has a picture of me in head scarf but that's as far as I've gone (so far). Glad you're feeling good, Mary! Your posts are so positive!!!! THANKYOU!

You rock Mary! I've actually been thinking about what I'm going to do when I have to get my license renewed. I usually wear a scarf or hat while going out....but if they won't let me wear one I'm not sure what I will do. I still have some time to decide so who knows were I will be at that time in my life.

Hi Mary, yes, I have had all my id changed to my current look. I remember when I renewed my passport, I use to wear a wig and I always felt funny when I crossed the border without one. Eventually I knew it was time to change when I really came to the conclusion that I was no longer wearing wigs and probably wouldn't be on a regular basis. I feel that the way you face the world everyday is the way that your id should portray you too. Good on you! I tick the bald box too ;). If that is not available I tick black. Since I am currently areata, my roots show ;)

My passport is good for a few more years, but if I'm still bald (and, at this point, there doesn't seem to be much doubt I will be), I'll have a bald passport photo taken.

That's a great story.

What about your passport?

Thanks, all. Since I gave all my wigs away over a year ago except for one, and don't know where I put the remaining one, I had three choices: renew my license with the old photo that doesn't look like me and depresses me, have a new photo taken bald, or have one taken in a scarf. I have a feeling they wouldn't have allowed me to have the photo taken in a scarf, but I didn't ask. I'm a bald lady, and I guess it means something that the choice was so clear and effortless. It makes me feel good.

That's how I found AW. I needed to know how others would handle applying for a new driver's license after hair loss and a change to a "new" hair color through a wig!

WOW!!!!.. that is incredibly!!!! Im recently having to get my gaming license renewed (I work in a casino) which requires a security clearance from the police. And also my passport needs renewing in the next few months. And I yet decided how my pic will be.
