Hi, I've been lurking on this site for a while now and thought I'd share my story. It's the same as lot of people on this site. I have female pattern baldness. Yah!!!! Lucky me! I believe my hair actually started falling out when I was a teenager but I didn't really notice, I'm 34 now. I always knew I didn't have great hair but I thought confidence is sexy so I just accepted that this was the way my hair was and went about my life. Then I went off the pill, you can guess what happened next. After about 5 mths it started growing back. But then I got pregnant and during my pregnancy my hair was pretty good. After I had my son I kept waiting for the dreaded shed. Well about 9mths later it came. Pouff! 80% of my hair fell out!! I tried all the crazy shampoos and some treatments but nothing worked. I could still pull my hair back in a clip and it would look OK. Anyone I told that I was losing my hair thought I was crazy. Except for my husband who was the only person I'd let see me unatural. My husband's been great through all of this. The funny thing is that he's bald. He lost all his hair when he was 18, but honestly he was meant to be bald. He has the perfect head shape for it and truthfully I would have walked right past him if I had met him when he still had hair. He is so much better looking without it. But I honestly feel he should cover the bald quota for our family. I do not have the head shape for baldness (think basketball head). I've been a stay at home mom for the last 3 yrs so thankfully I've haven't had to look good on a daily basis but I will be returning to work soon so I decided to buy a topper. Best thing I have ever done!!! Is it perfect? No. Does it match my hair 100%? No. Is it better then having all my own hair back? Hell No! Do I feel pretty again? YES!!! I've decided I'm going to buy the hair I always wanted. I know plenty of people who wear extensions for length so why should I feel bad about wearing a hair piece? I'm now able to style my hair in ways I never could with my bio hair. I wish I could get the colour to match better but I see plenty of people with foils and highlights so I'm just going to pretend I'm one of them. The nearest wig store is about 5 hrs away so I've had to do my hair shopping online. Kinda hard to match up colour through web sites. But I would rather someone wonder about my hair then see how it really is. My mother, husband and bf know I wear a topper but I just told my inlaws that I went and got extensions. So far they seem to be buying it. I would love some tips for caring for a synthetic wig. I'm not sure how much to wash it. I don't use any products on it, I just usually leave it down since its been so long since I could do that. Sorry if I rambled a bit.

My hair started to thin when I was 16 and by 18 I really got tired of people telling me that they could see my scalp or just staring at my head when I was talking to them. I went to hairdresser school mostly to learn how to best handle my own hair. My license gave me a way to pay my way through college and great discounts on wigs. I am now in my 50's and wigs have come a long way both in comfort and style. As you age your hair gets more sparse and the strands often become thinner. There are some good online companies out there and you can get a semi custom piece to match your exsisting hair. Good news, at this time hair styles have dark roots and color differences. I am fortunate enough to have hair on back of my head and side thin hairline. I much prefer closures but I feel I am blessed to have this option. Human hair is more money but worth the investment. Make sure you use cleaner that is just for your new piece, remember no matter what synthtic hair is called, it is still chemicaly manufactured plastic. I started with synthetic for my first piece. Becareful of some types of hairspray, you do not want build up and/or have dull looking hair. Careful of curling iron, remember it is plastic strands. Enjoy your first piece and I bet you look beautiful. After over three decades of wearing hair I just don't make it a topic of conversation, when people say they love my hair I say , Thank-you. I never feel quilty because I bought it and it is mine:)

Trial and error on getting the color right. I order from a chinese website, message me if you want it. You can dye human hair wigs. I learned to do it myself and am not a hairdresser.

Color will not ever be exact remember your hair is more than one color even if you color your own hair nothing can stip sun fading or a prefer to think of it as natural highlights. Their are many factors when coloring wig human wig hair, ie chinese vs. indian hair, reg. human vs. remy hair, the amount of process done to hair, curl, highlights. These all play into the color that will mathch your own hair. Remember it is not just color but also texture. Once you get the type of hair you want then look at color.

Thanks for the info everyone. I'm definitly going to look into getting a human hair piece. I'm hoping to make a trip to go hair shopping with a friend. I find it so hard judging the hair types and colours online.

The more popular hair is indian, wether you decide remy or 100% human it is much easier to style as opposed to Chinese. For your first time choose curl close to yours and lenghth that you can handle. If you buy a full wig make sure that it will not get too hot on your head. If you do not have to wear full wig a frontal is really great. Relax and have fun! Tell us about your shopping trip.
