My 16 month old has been diagnosed with Alopecia, so I am talking to everyone who knows anything about this problem. Someone mentioned if this could be related to Radon Gas, and If I ever have tested my house for Radon. So I went first thing today morning and got a Radon Test Kit which takes about 2 weeks to get results, and I am growing impatient to figure out if it could be related. Has anyone who suffering from Alopecia looked into Radon gas in their house or work place?

Radon has been related to lung cancer but I have never heard of this. 1 out of 5 houses in the area of the country that I live in has elevated radon levels and alopecia is still extremely rare. You should have your house tested for radon for other health reasons but I don't believe there is any connection to the alopecia. You may drive yourself crazy looking for the cause and cure. I know this because I have been there.

Yeah, I am at the edge of going crazy! I have been researching this problem for 2 months now, and am still in disbelief that we don't know the real cause and cure for this problem. I am doing the radon home test to see if it comes back positive, for whatever it is worth!

It seems a lot of people get on here frantic to personally discover some link to some cause in the local environment. I think when NAAF (www.naaf.org) finds out some real facts on alopecia triggers from research, those of us on that info chain will be all posting it here. Welcome to The Wait.

Auto-immune diseases still baffle the medical profession.Maybe once they discover how to deal with one it will translate over to others but there are sooooo many of them and at least alopecia isn't life threatening compared to some others. However, it can be emotionally devastating to see our altered appearance and getting to grips with that for me is more important in the short term. Maybe a cure will be found in years to come, but in the meantime we can live life well and not let alopecia interfere too much in our daily activities. As a mother I know how distraught this is for you, and getting on contact with other parents of alopecians will really help you deal with your emotions. Welcome to our family !
