I'm not too sure exactly when my hair started falling out.  I noticed it around December of 2014.  Interestingly enough, much of my hair is also turning white.  I'm in my 60s so white is not a problem.  Anyway, I realized that both of these issues came about after I had surgery.  I've heard that surgery can cause your hair to turn white I'm just curious is anyone's alopecia started after a traumatic event?

Hi

My Alopecia began after 2 years of chronic stress and 1 very stressful event. It was after that particular event that I noticed my first spot. That was in 2013. My hair did grow back for about 10 months, however, I just experienced another traumatic event and I feel it triggered this second round of Alopecia. I truly feel that stressful events can "trigger" your body to do things it normally wouldn't do. I'm now finding a way to treat the Alopecia, and I'm determined that there is a way to get my hair to grow back. I hope you are finding your way as well :)

I too am in my 60s and have had AA for 15 years. Bald spots have come and gone. This winter I was very sick, in the hospital for a month and finally had major surgery. A month later my hair is falling out by the handfull. Not in spots, all over. My dermotoligist said it is not AA, but telogen effluvium. So, this is a long way of saying, ask your dr if he or she is sure what you have. I am told this will most likely grow back as the body recovers from trauma. Good luck, Susan
