In my last blog post, Acceptance, I mentioned that I told my boyfriend that I have alopecia. Well, two weeks ago, we broke up. He was my first boyfriend that I've told about my alopecia. And for that reason, I withheld the part about wearing a hairpiece (he just knows about the loss of hair everywhere else, like eyebrows, eyelashes etc). I would of eventually told him if we continued dating but I'm glad I didn't tell him. Because two days ago, on twitter, he tweeted: "Lmfao if your a girl and youre already losing your hair when youre 16 that has to be the most funniest shit ever. Cant wait till your bald!"
My first reaction, was pure shock. I didn't think he would go that low. We didn't even have a bad break up. So what are his motives? Whatever his motives were, there is no excuse. I'm sharing this because although I'm opening up more, I need to be careful with who I'm trusting with my vulnerability: alopecia. This incident is not scaring me from accepting myself or from telling any of my future boyfriends or friends. It just opened my eyes. Being open is perfectly fine, just be careful with who you're telling. My friends are still accepting me fully, hairpiece and all, and I'm blessed for having them in my life. My ex boyfriend is NOT going to keep me from moving forward.I'm not going to hide it, and keep it from my friends. I love answering questions my friends have about alopecia :)
Jackie.
I went through the same thing when I was 18. That's when I first got alopecia and as soon as I would tell the boy about it, that was it. Please don't let them hold you down! You are worth so much more and you deserve someone who loves you for you! Keep your head up beautiful!
Jackie,
Sorry to be a jerk but hes an asshole... I have yet to tell my boyfriend that I have alopecia. You deserve the best and nothing less. Your post gives me motivations to be more open about my condition. Have a blessed day!
Thank you guys for the nice comments c: They truly make me feel so much better <3
