I have been fully AU now for just over a couple of weeks and I’ve become used to the new me. It really is great now that I’ve gone through that awful period when the hair is falling out.
I’ve had lots of support and kind comments from people on the alopecia websites I use and also from family and friends who know what has been going on. It has had its’ moments of humour though!!!!
Only last week as I was getting changed at the gym/sports hall I bumped into a friend who immediately spotted that all my hair was gone. He was used to seeing me with a bald head and knew the history of it going, coming back and then going again but he was used to me having a very hairy body. “My God” he said. “What’s happened to you? You look like a plucked chicken”. He laughed like mad. I explained to him that it was a further development of alopecia. He was clearly concerned at this point but I told him that apart from having no hair I was in fine form. He then went on to tell me that he thought it would be so much better not having body hair. He is hairy all over also as I was and he thought that loosing the body hair was fantastic. He didn’t want to loose his head hair but he would happily loose the hair everywhere else. “You can’t have everything” I said.
It is funny really but people have asked me more about loosing my body hair and eyebrows than they ever did about my head hair!!!!!
