Just as you start to get used to your current form of alopecia it changes.
I have had nearly twelve months now with AU. Not a hair anywhere other than the fact that I still have to shave my chin now and then. Even then the hair on my chin is now much finer than it used to be. I’ve had no eyebrows, no eyelashes not anything.
The last couple of weeks though I’ve noticed that I’ve got a few eyelashes come back and the front section of my head has started to have hairs grow…

It is nearly that time of the year when I have to start looking for some new hats to wear. The summer is gone and autumn is getting chilli. Winter will soon be here and my head is starting to feel the cold already.
I cannot decide exactly what style of hats to wear this year. In the past I have simply worn beanie type hats but perhaps this year I will try something a bit different. A friend of mine has suggested a Theodora. What on earth is that I hear someone say? Well it’s a bit…

Going on holiday is great but it is always over far too soon!!!!!!!
It only seems like yesterday that I was packing my bags and getting ready for a week in the sun. In a blink of an eye I am back at me desk in the office looking at the everyday problems of business today. It’s a good thing that I enjoy my work!!!!!
Having been away, I must say that I really enjoyed my time without the hustle of routine and I had some valuable time with my family sitting in the sun, eating,…

What is so wonderful about British weather is that it changes so much and so often. Only a few weeks ago we were all basking in a glorious hot summer spell. The sun was warming my bald head whenever I went outside and it was wonderful. Today as I walk along my head is drenched and the rain is running off my head and down into my unprotected eyes. On an appearance basis my lack of eyebrows is not a problem as I quite like the total hairless image but they did serve a purpose in that they did…

Sunday was an ideal day, the weather forecast was good and so we got up early and set off for the beach in Wales. We go to a beach between Barmouth and the Clynn Peninsular so it’s about a two and a half hour drive away from Warrington. We break the journey up with a coffee stop at Bala which is always a good place to break the journey. We always use the same coffee shop as the coffee is excellent and the coffee shop itself is an interesting place to visit. It is an old chapel converted into a…

The debate over Alopecia and stress will go on and on and will probably never be fully resolved. Personally I don’t think stress is the cause as on the two occasions I came down with Alopecia I was not stressed any more than normal. The first time I got Alopecia I had AA and was so bad that I shaved my head. After several months I noticed that the patches had all disappeared and so I let me hair grow back. After another couple of months the patches started once more and so I shaved my head…

As I move on down path of being AU I try to keep up to date on the various Alopecia Websites and I was pleased to read about one young lady who had AU showing lots of re growth. It is amazing that she has so much hair again and I hope that she gets all of it back and it stays with her for ever. What I hope for more than that though is that she is not let down by the dreaded Alopecia. She seems so happy with her re growth and I really hope that she is not hurt by a turn in fortune. We all know…

Yesterday the weather was fantastic. It was warm and sunny and it was a real pleasure to take a walk outside. The sun on my bald head was wonderful as was the warm spring breeze. Today it is dull and cold again. The simple facts are that it is just the ever changing British weather.
In many ways the weather here is rather like alopecia. Sometime you have hair sometime you don’t, sometimes it’s warm and sometimes it’s cold. Just as you think that things are going in one direction then…

It’s funny now that I’ve become accustomed to being AU I find it very strange if I see a hair anywhere on my body. A weeks or so ago I spotted two hairs growing on my head. They were not near to each other and they fell out quite quickly. Only this morning I happened to see a hair growing on my leg. It was very weird, a solitary little hair all alone on my leg. At one time it would have been surrounded by lots of other hairs but now it was all alone. I touched the hair and it fell out. I’m not…

I have been fully AU now for just over a couple of weeks and I’ve become used to the new me. It really is great now that I’ve gone through that awful period when the hair is falling out.
I’ve had lots of support and kind comments from people on the alopecia websites I use and also from family and friends who know what has been going on. It has had its’ moments of humour though!!!!
Only last week as I was getting changed at the gym/sports hall I bumped into a friend who…

Yesterday as I was travelling back from London I stopped at a motorway service station for a coffee. As I stood in the queue another “Alopecian” joined the queue. It was clear that he noticed my Alopecia. It is obvious now that I am not just simply bald as my eyebrows have virtually all gone and so the alopecia is plain to see. He was also completely bald and had no eyebrows so I naturally assumed he was the same as I am, AU.
I was speaking to the person behind the counter but I…

Well I’ve done it!!!!!!!
Having experienced the loss of lots of my body hair I was feeling very much the same as I did when my head hair was falling out. As such, I was tempted to use the same course of action that I had used when the hair on my head was coming out – to remove what was let so that I no longer had to see it falling out.
Well yesterday after about 60% of my body hair had gone (I was really hairy) I went to see a friend of mine who has a business removing…

My second bout of alopecia is developing in quite an interesting way. I have shaved my head as I did with my first experience of alopecia but this time my eyebrows are thinning and I now have patches on my body. The first time I had alopecia the painful stage of seeing hairs in the shower stopped as soon as I shaved my head. This time I have shaved my head but there are still hairs in the shower that clearly are coming out of my body. My body hair, beard and one set of eyelashes have changed…

Saturday morning and I am off to London to see the Rugby, England v Italy in the Six Nations competition. I am taking clients, one of which is an Italian so it should be a fun day out.
I have chosen to go on the train as the weather has been so bad in places yet as I sit on the train as a paying guest of Virgin Rail the view out the window is of a glorious winter wonderland. The sun is shining and the snow looks so inviting. The reality though is that it has been such a problem to so…

How has being bald affected you? That is if it has affected you. Mind you I do think it must have even if it is only the fact that you notice how cold it is much more now than when you had hair.
Many of the websites for Alopecia document how many people are stressed about having Alopecia and that they desperately worry about their hair growing back. I must admit that when I first had alopecia I was concerned about the situation but once I shaved my head I stopped worrying and found…

Well it is now just over a month ago that I shaved my head for my second bout of Alopecia. How time flies!!!!!!
What I have noticed this time around is that my patches are much less visible as it seems that my hair falling out was much more a case of thinning rather than just large patches. There are a couple of large patches but in the main the bulk of the hair that fell out was very definitely a thinning of my hair whereas the first time I shaved my head there was a lot of big…

Happy New Year to you all!!!!
I hope that everyone had a great festive break and that Santa brought you all lots of goodies. As for me, I got lots of goodies including a full on attack of Alopecia. As you may know from my recent posts, near to the end of November I had developed a patch on my left hand side just above my ear and on the right hand side my hair line was rising above the ear but I had left it for a while to see how things developed.
I should have shaved my…

As Christmas approaches it looks as thought Santa is bringing me another bout of Alopecia.
Having shaved all of my hair off last December to reveal a glorious map of the world on my head (40% of my hair had fallen out) I was a happy bald person. By August the patches had all disappeared and so I let me hair grow back. I still kept it short but I did have hair. A couple of weeks ago though I noticed a patch on the left side of my head just above the ear had developed and it’s getting…

I drove up to Scotland this morning. Boy is it cold up here today.
The weather was terrible on the way up with lots of rain in Lancashire then lots of snow through Cumbria. It really was a bad journey but then again not as bad as it could have been. The temperature has been really cold so I am just so glad that I have a thin covering of hair at the moment. To be completely hairless is not too good when it’s so cold. Roll on next spring when it will get warm enough to have no…

Winter is here. As the temperature has dropped I have appreciated more then ever that I have had virtually full re-growth. My hair is now cut to a number 3 and has grown back all over my head apart from a small patch on the left side. I say that but did it not grow back completely and then it has it fallen out again? I’m not sure. There is also a slight shortage of hair over my ears on both sides but compared to how it was before I shaved my head last year it is brilliant and so warm compared…
