This I just can't figure out?? Why is it I have had to deal with alopecia areata now for almost 17 years, I just recently find this great website with people just like me (have never met anyone else with this condition before), and now in the last two weeks...I now have alopecia universalis? Yes, it's almost all gone now.

Because knowing there are so many people out in this world also dealing with this condition, I feel I'm handling this better then I would have. Don't get me wrong....I'm a little depressed, but I feel that this will definitely help me and to soon now accept this.

Not only by everyone's stories of getting through lifes daily challenges, but by all the caring people I have had the great oportunity to now relate to.
Thank You.....

Hi Stacy,
I ve come across this hair essentials too.I read the reviews and I should say that I was really tempted to get it myself. But all the ingredients are herbal and this is a medicine that goes inside. Its not topical. And the main catch is that it is not FDA approved.Clinical trial let you know if there is any advert effects of these ingredients on long run.I spoke to a representative about its long term effects and I was told that they are not carcinogenic but I should stop using them once I get pregnant.I was not too sure about it,so I dropped the idea. I suggest you do a good research about the ingredients before you go ahead and use it.I would.

Welcome to Alopecia World Sherri. It has been over 20 years for me too.

Well, in my humble and non-scientific opinion, that sounds very evasive! If they HAD done clinical trials, that information should and would be published - somewhere. If they're saying that those trials were done, ask them where they're published. I assume no trials were ever done. ( ;-)

Well, good for you for trying! I guess they don't have the money to do the clinical trials (which is what I was talking about) themselves. I know that it's very expensive.

I hope i continues to help you. ( ;-)

Welcome to this wonderful network! I just found this site recently too, and I love it! I love all the people and the insite that it brings to my life almost daily. I have had alopecia for 25 years, and until lately I don't think I have ever talked about it as much as I do now, online and with other people. My husband tells me he can also see what a change AW has made in me, I have reached a whole new level of comfort/acceptance when it comes to my alopecia, I am sure you will find that it will help you too...

Glad it works for you. I think you should email NAAF about it - I mean this seriously, not facetiously. Maybe they don't know about it.

Yes, Stacy, AW is about sharing tips and stuff. Thank you for sharing. I'd like to believe that this product (or any product!) works, but I feel forced to share my questions:

IF the special formula that Hair Essentials has discovered really DID jump start hair follicles and promote hair growth for people with AA, wouldn't NAAF be all over it? NAAF's main focus is finding a "cure". Surely they'd be jumping on this.

Wouldn't it be front-page news for all types of hair loss?! Think of how BIG the news story was recently about a new drug that grew hair in bald mice...it was HUGE news. This hasn't been in the news.

Here's the bottom line for me - I'm not a scientist, but I know that there is something called "double blind testing" where there is a control group and the experimental group. The control group gets a placebo - a product with no active ingredients. The experimental group gets the drug being tested.

I don't see anything on the Hair Essentials website claiming that they have DONE double blind scientific testing, and I'd bet they haven't. IF this product really has the effects they claim, it would be submitted to rigorous SCIENTIFIC testing and the results would be proven.

But, all that this product has to back it up are the testimonials. There's no scientific evidence, which could be obtained through appropriate double blind testing.

I'm happy if you have had hair growth, but I remain an unbeliever in the face of a lack of testing and proof.

Well now that its still cold I wear caps and in summer I switch to hats.I will start work probably next year then I will probably get a wig.The problem is that I want a wig which will not look too obvious.Any ideas as to what kind would be the best?I was thing about a lace front with bangs or something so that the hair line wont show and the wig will look as close to natural as I can hope for.Any comments?
