I joined in a conversation between my friend and another woman after church one day. They were discussing pottery techniques and the woman mentioned something about adding butterflies to her work, she loves butterflies. I mentioned that the butterfly was a symbol that some people associate with alopecia. Now my one friend was well aware of my alopecia and is very supportive however this other woman didn't have a clue and it didn't occur to me at the time that it would raise questions. Well it did and the question asked was very unexpected as I've never been asked this before. She asked me WHERE alopecia is??? Thought number one was to say "on my head, I even have a world map of some unknown planet up there" but I resisted and briefly explained what it was. You just never know what to expect sometimes!

I'm currently in the process of moving so I apologize for not being around much lately but I do hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the spring sun on their heads, I know I am whenever I get a chance! Take care!!! :)

I'm not sure if the butterfly thing was a passing craze or not. The idea behind it was that the caterpillar to butterfly metamorphosis signifies the change that occurs when you get alopecia. I tend to associate alopecians to either butterflies or chameleons - they either let their colours shine as a beautiful baldy or they tend to hide and blend into their surrounding like chameleons. Hope that explains things for you a little better. :)

I love that except I think Alopecians are beautiful butterflies that metamorphosis back into ugly caterpillars until they realize that its only hair, it doesn’t make the person, and then they turn slowly back into beautiful butterflies again.

We are ugly caterpillars with hair until we lose our hair and turn into butterflies. We perhaps feel ugly during the metamorphosis and shortly after being reborn as a butterfly until we realize how beautiful we've become! For me and I would assume anyone who's had alopecia for a very, very long time as I have, the psychology surrounding this condition has long been studied and surveyed. Many people with alopecia who've accepted they are now beautiful would likely agree that it has made them a different person. I know I wouldn't have been the same had I never gotten it and I really don't think I would have liked who I would have become. You can't be beautiful then ugly then beautiful again especially when it concerns who we are on the inside. Regardless, we are all beautiful in the end if we can accept and love our true positive selves.

Hey, Carol! The Woman Formerly Known as B_ _ _ _ here. Missed hearing from you and hearing your singing here! Since you have been gone, we seem to have also lost three former fun bloggers: Angela, Carmella the Nurse, and Claire-Who-Isn't-Afraid-to-Dump-Drinks-on-Rude-Men. Anyhoo, I am between college semesters and family drama events, so I have had time to revisit this site. All good! Welcome back! Loved your video...
