Hey guys,

It's been a while since I've been on here but I have a few questions and was hoping to get some advice.

I am currently wearing monofilament wigs and am going to Seville in Spain for 4 weeks with work and it is due to be very hot. I was wondering if anyone has been to a hot climate and found wearing their wig to be uncomfortable? I have been wearing wigs since January this year and have experienced no discomfort so far and hoping things will stay like this.

Also, I don't sleep in my wig and don't cover my head at night but yesterday I noticed a very big red patch on the back of my head, it almost looks like a birth mark but I know it isn't as it hasn't been there before. I was wondering if this is just the material inside the wig or on my pillow rubbing against my head?

On a more positive note, I have 5 small patches of regrowth on my head that is getting longer each day. I'm very excited about this but I know not to get my hopes up too much as it could all go away again, but again I was wondering, with regrowth, does hair usually come back in patches?

Any input would really be appreciated....thanks guys!

Would you be interested in wearing a scarf instead of your wig? I live here in Texas where it's super hot, and in the summer, I NEVER wear my wig. I'd rather be comfortable than miserable just so people "thought" I had hair. I just purchased a "beau beau" from 4women.com. I'm excited to get it!! I've also been to Spain and was wearing a wig at that time. Very hot and uncomfortable but I did it. Good luck on your decision and have a wonderful time in Spain! It's beautiful there!!
PS...YEAH for your hair growth!!!

I have always found the wigs to be uncomfortable in the summer. I just started wearing more scarves out and about this year so once the weather gets hot here that is what I will be doing. I also get the red patches on the back of my head, I think it is from the wig rubbing - seems like the skin is different, more sensative with no hair on the scalp.
Hope you have a terrrific time in Spain no matter what you decide to do.
Oh, and the hair regrowth, YES sometimes it comes back in patches - the same way it fell out.

I have a Peggy Knight Gripper and mine is very uncomfortable and hot. I have found my full lace wig to be the most comfortable.. Oh and congrats on the regrowth..My regrowth did come back in patches.

Thank you all for your comments

I have never heard of Peggy Knights hair grips but I will google those and have a look. I'm not sure about the hats with hair. I don't tend to wear hats as I don't think I suit them but at least I know it's a good option :-)

I'm not sure about a scarf either. The more I think about it, the more I think I am being too fussy about what I cover mt head with. I come from a really small town and am very worried that once people see me with just a scarf or in different wigs they will start to talk about me and I will feel uncomfortable with going out in public Today though, I went to my wig vendor and bought a brand new wig in the style of a bob with blond highlights and I brought one of the wigs I already have with me and had it cut into a bob too (the wig in my profile pic)... I want to be able to wear all my wigs and now they are all so different so at the minute I am seriously considering going out in public with my head held high and if people talk, well that is theie problem. It's easier said than done though. Does anyone have any advice on how I should approach this, or able to give me some insight into their experiences?

Hiya Sarah, - I know I'm not a girl (you may have noticed... :) ), but waaaay back in the Dawn of Time, when dinosaurs roamed the Earth and everything was in black and white, fellas were in the same boat you're in now. I didn't have wigs, but I had a (weird) selection of hats.... I eventually got to the stage of going out bald and exposed, by doing it in a gradual, controlled manner - that is, I got to choose the times and places, and made sure I could "revert" if i got too panicky.
So, f'rinstance, try going without as a passenger in a car. You'll feel protected, and if you start to feel uncomfy, get the driver to whizz off somewhere else, while you replace the wig. Or, do it somewhere that no-one knows you, - just go into a small shop, and see how that feels. Then try a larger shop, and work up to a night out in a pub. Yeah? You can gradually get bolder and bolder, and balder and balder too! :)
What I found was that, once peeps had seen me a couple of times, they stopped looking or even noticing.... no-one actually cares if you''re bald! (yeah, I know - bit of a pis*ser, isn't it? We're not special after all!)

Hope this helps... feel free to ask anything you like, if it'll help. Or even if it won't! :)

The Norm

Thanks a lot Norm...your message made me smile :-)

I don't think I could ever go out without a wig.. I admire those who can and wish I had the courage. The big hurlde for me to get over right now is wearing different style wigs every day. i think I am going to bite the bullet though and go for it.

Well, that's a reasonable course of action, to never go out without a wig. ..... doesn't mean you always have to wear it, though! :)
But hey, you gotta do what's right for YOU - what works for one person won't be right for another. Don't sweat the "different wig" thing - if someone looks at you in a puzzled way and asks how come your hair grew 6 " overnight and changed colour, just tell 'em the other one was a wig. Well, it'll be true, won't it? Just don't mention that THIS is, too! :)
