Any new treatment?

Hi Everyone,

I am new to this site. Actually this is the first time blogging.

I have been dealing with alopecia areata for the last 20 years of my life on and off. I am 34 years of age. I was wondering if anyone knows of any new treatments that might work or any news of any in the near future?

I am currently just using a topical cortisone cream. I recently shaved my head because of hair loss almost 50%. I have tried in the past injections, acupuncture, and every home remedy… Continue

BBD77 thanks for your comments. I'm not at 50% but the frustration of patches puts a hat on my head most day's. Were you surprised at the look of yourself bald?

Hey BBD77

I thought I'd ask you as were from the same province.
How was it after shaving your head. I've heard some say its liberating, instead of dealing with the patches, which is where I am now. I get frustrated in windy days or swimming.
As with many posts I've read, I'm concerned about head shape and stuff as I've never seen myself bald. I've had patches on my body as far back as I can remember but this past year its really started targeting my scalp.
This is my first on AW and saw your location, just thought I'd ask a neighbour.
Thanks

Bart

Oh I've done the injections, creams and thought I'd give Biotin Vitamin H a shot...nothin'

Welcome Mr. BBD77. Honestly, I've heard many scientists present their latest scientific adventures in researching a cure for alopecia, always referring to the T-cells, etc. After looking at all of the diagrams, watching many unidentified objects bouncing all over images, and seeing too many arrows shooting from all directions, my final question is always, "What will the new cure do to the rest of my system?" Of course, they always want to avoid trying anything new on children or women still in childbearing ages, the first sign that this could be a fatal attraction. Even if something is on the horizon, just how much risk do you want to take just to have hair? Maybe at this age, I should be willing to sacrifice the rest of my life (which may be short anyway) to benefit the generations coming up; but, one would never really know if the less-than-desirable results were the consequence of my weakened state (at 66) or toxic to any age. If it's really important to have the hair, then keep asking the question but remember that every pharmaceutical can potentially be hazardous to our health. Hopefully, others have better wisdom and faith..lol.
