HEy Julia
My Alopecia was discovered only 8 months ago but it has probably been falling out for a year without me noticing it. I have managed to conceal it in my thick hair and I'm holding off the inevitable shave as long as possible. My hair seems to fall out after my morning shower. Maybe I should stop showering?? I'm not sure if it falls out from my 'spots' or if its from other parts of my scalp.??
Do you know....? Does Alopecia Areata become Alopecia Totalis or Universalis? Is it a progression from one form of Alopecia to another or are these categories of hair loss?
Thanks
gonz

We all sympathize with you. Mine started falling out last aug and is now all gone. I wish I could answer your question about Totalis -Universalis I'm waiting to find out :)

Hi! From my understanding, it is relatively rare for AA to turn into AT, and even more rare for it to progress into AU. I've experienced all 3 (for a period of approx 8 yrs). Luckily, I have had regrowth with just a couple of relatively unnoticeable spots, and just get really patchy (requiring a wig) every few yrs or so. Most of my hair falls out in the shower and when I comb it after; but I don't think I would stop showering. In my opinion, if it's going to fall out it's going to fall out- it's probably just more noticeable in the shower than on the carpet or wherever. Hope that helps! ;)

like looking for a needle in a hay stack!
Jokes aside...man you are too good looking.
If it's going to fall out..check out Matt from Alopecia World..he had patchy hair and he has a sphynx cat called "Hairy"he looks magnificent without hair.
Liberating and Great Looks go alone with being Bald...Especially men!
That's my personal opinion..however I too fe=el that women look fantastic bald!
After all..I too have Alopecia.
I too am from Sydney Australia..yet have lived here in the US for over 8 years.
Check out my profile, picz and video of when my hair grew back..to a spars fluff on top.
Now I have to shave it as I received a freedom wig and must shave in order for the prosthetic to suction.
Guess it would have been better all those years ago when I had alopecia totalis!
