Wigs where the hair can be tucked behind your ears

Started this discussion. Last reply by emmklise31 Apr 3, 2019. 19 Replies

It seems to me that every wig has those "tabs" right in the front of your ears that make it impossible to tuck behind your ears, or wear in a regular ponytail. I have been wearing wigs for a few…Continue

About Me:
Update September 2015 - Still have crazy patches of hair and bald spots, I'd say at this point I have about 55% coverage. I was so excited two years ago when it started to grow but it didn't last very long. I'm really really tired of this disease and wearing wigs, and depressed at the thought of dealing with this for the rest of my life.

Update Sept 2013 - MY HAIR IS GROWING BACK!! It started with some patches in the back about 9 months ago, I now have coverage over 90% of my head. My eyelashes, eyebrows and body hair are also back. Its still thin on top, but I have hopes it will keep filling in. I am so happy, but also a bit fearful to jinx myself by putting this out here. I know there is always a chance I could lose it again, but I'm really hoping it stays. I did nothing different, I think it just randomly grew just as it randomly fell out.

One day in early Nov 2011 I was washing my hair and suddenly hundreds of hairs started falling out. By New Years I was 75% bald and had to shave my head. It has not grown back since then. I had scalp biopsies done and got my official diagnosis of diffuse alopecia areata. I have gotten all of the blood work done at the endocronologist and I have no hormone imbalance or vitamin deficiencies aside from hypothyroid which I've had for 12 years. She told me this was caused by stress.

I am 38 years old, and never had thick luxurious hair, but I would give just about anything to go back to my old thin hair. After careful research I am not going to do predinsone or injections, or purposely burn my scalp. All of these treatments seem way too risky and why would I want to cause MORE health problems just to save my hair? I did two months of acupuncture and chinese herbs which did not help.

I am so thankful for my husband and friends, who have been amazing and supportive. And I am also extremely thankful for this website which got me through the very tough times at the beginning. I don't go on as often now since I've mostly come to terms with this. But I hope my story helps someone else in the future.

I Kara...
I just stumbled on your page and read your notes. My heart goes out to you. What you are now experiencing, I went through last spring, and it's such a difficult stage. I think you are wise not to pursue aggressive treatment. I have been seeing a naturopath and am striving to optimize my health, of course hoping that ultimately I'll have regrowth. Be good to yourself.
