About Me:
I am a mother of a 14 year old girl with AU. She first started losing her hair when she was 9. It started as AA, then went to AT, then AU, now back to AA.

She is an incredible person...the strongest person I know. I think she has only cried 4 or 5 times about her condition in the last 3 years (compared to my 4 or 5000). She just has this wonderful attitude of "This is who I am. I have more important things in my life than worrying about my hair (or lack thereof)."

I believe the old saying of "God will never give you more than what you can handle" is true. I don't know why she has this condition, but I do know that God has very special plans for her in her life. I consider myself blessed to be her mom!!!
Do you have alopecia?

Breaking the Silence

Posted on March 8, 2009 at 10:30pm 4 Comments

Rachel has been very secretive about her condition. She has not wanted anyone to know that she has alopecia other than her family, and she has never wanted to talk about it. She has been very happy with her wig that is attached with medical grade adhesive. I think it has allowed her to just forget that she is bald and allowed her to feel like everyone else.

Then, she started losing her brows and lashes. The kids at school started asking questions which she fielded without telling… Continue

My Introduction to Alopecia

Posted on March 2, 2009 at 6:02pm 0 Comments

In December, 2006 my daughter, Rachel, was wearing her hair up in a ponytail and a friend asked her what that bald spot was. The spot was about the size of a quarter. We took her to a pediatrician who told us not to worry about it...it would grow back.

By February, the bottom half of her head in the back was bald. We took her to a dermatologist, who broke the news to us that she had AA. I was devastated. All of my hopes and dreams for her felt like they were smashed to tiny pieces.… Continue

Thank you very much to the response to my blog. I would like it if you would tell me how it goes ordering from the Ultimate Hair website. I am OK now, but I am sure it won't be long until I need a replacement. I do prefer human hair. I can't afford to spend alot of money for one so ordering a new vacuum piece is out of the question.

Thank you again and God bless, Mary

Hi Paige, thank you so much for your kind words!! I dont really try to impress anyone, but i'm glad that it made you happy, and you are right - it's all about choice and how we choose to deal with it.

I hope your daughter realises that it's not the be all and end all, and that we're still happy and alive and can still do anything and everything we want to.

Thanks again,
