I know these post are old, but I wanted to share my story. My nine year old daughter suffers from an autoimmune disorder. Alopecia areata. We believe that it is also Celiac, but have not wanted to do the biopsy so we are just gluten free and casien free. She lost her hair in two patches in August 2010 and by December 2010, she was completely bald and losing lashes and eye brows. Md’s offered little hope. I can not say I understand all of the research, but we have eye brows and eyelashes and budding hair. We were given a bottle by a friend and she takes a half pill. We were told to give 120 days. We are almost at 90 days. I can say that she has not missed one day of school this year. She is the only one in the house who has not taken a turn with the flu we have had twice. She is focused in school and overall looks healthy. My fiance’ and I started taking it two weeks ago. All I know is I sleep like a baby these days and so far I feel an overall increase in mood, patience and energy. I was told the first 30 days its like detox. So I am surprised, that I do feel better. My fiance’ says his lower back and knees don’t hurt him as much and he also wakes up feeling more rested. Like I said, we are at week two. I do hope people who wonder if it will help them, take the plunge and see. It just seems t be hard to explain and understand, because it is new and different. It was explained to me that it helps your body get back to normal from the inside out. The ingredients are not harmful. I do feel it is worth trying. I am thankful to have been given protandim and look forward to sharing more. Thanks again.

Hi ASRN, I may not have the official answer to this, but because I have almost no hair to speak of on my head, I am able to wear a type of wig, that is held to my head with medical grade silicone, One type is the vacuum type of wigs, that are human hair and don't come off until you break the suction and take them off, the one I got has the silicone all around the edges and holds in place that way, no goop or tape, or glue, I do sorta have to release it too to get it off, I can whip my head around and tug on it and it wont budge, NICE. it is made of 100% human hair, and I just got it, so getting use to doing hair that's mine but not mine, I'm really new to the whole wig thing so not an expert by any means, but to me this feels more like a permanent solution, where the one wig I bought felt like a wig and not really a part of me. I don't know for sure the different kinds of wigs that are considered a Prosthesis and which are strictly considered a wig tho. Would love to hear a veteran's reply to this tho...

the branch of surgery dealing with the replacement of missing limbs or organs with artificial substitutes

I think this description can reach hair replacement, but just like a missing limb needs to be custom fit for the individual I believe a Prosthetic wig would need to be the same.

Freedom Vacuums are totally customised. So, I feel the description works.

Stock wigs in different sizes to fit general head size, I don't know.

In reality you can call you hair any name you wish and if prosthesis works for you then go for it. :) It's more about you loving your hair and feeling good in it.

how do you go about getting this type of wig? I KNOW there are no services in my Blacks Hills, SD area .... If you look online how do you know what will actually work and look right? Is is rude to ask the average price? You don't have to answer that if you don't want to :)

Wow Jeffrey.. I have not taken anything, and I'm been thinking about trying to at least try something for at least hair on my head. I was told I will never get hair again, which I haven't had hair in 6yrs. Any idea where I should begin?

If you want to start with something simple and approved by NAAF I would go for the 5% minoxidil twice daily to the scalp.

Ive never tried it! But i lost most my hair when i was 21 eyebrows body hair everything tho all my life never had much arm or leg hair always told i was lucky lol and now at 25 i have probaly 85% or moreback all sparse areas are growing just the part in the nape where i shaved a lil is being stubborn for the first time in years im seeing my eyebrow shape and sparse eyelashes i havnt used any treatments! I think im just alot more happy and less stress try not to stress off small things n im so busy with my baby that turned two i dnt have time to stress off my hair! And a good wig that makes me confident! I think its all playing a part in my hair growth because i did go thru a darker n harder time before

1) never heard of it. But fully look in to it before purchasing anything okie hun?! :)
2) I was prescribed this anointment by my doctor, but no results yet :L
3) When I was about 7-8 years old I lost all my hair on my body. On and off a few hairs would come out but then fall again. I'm 15 now and in June I had a few medium length hairs on the left side of my head. By the beginning of August, they fell out :c BUT a little bit of my eyebrows have came out, and remained there for months already, and my lashes in my right eye are growing and still growing since last year I believe :) And that's all natural.

yes - thank you. Only 15 huh? wow. I lost a patch in high school too but it was underneath my other hair and grew in by itself. I don't think I ever thought it was an actual problem until all my hair started falling out in Dec then I started thinking about other times in my life when it fell out and realized I have had this for a long time (i'm 34 now)! I'm sorry you have to deal with this so young. :(

My hair started to fall out in the early 1970s... It started when I noticed that my hairline in the back kept on getting higher and higher. I was around 15 years old at the time. For the next 15 years, I had alopecia areata, with spots appearing, expanding, and filling in thanks to localized cortisone injections. Eyebrows and lashes would come and go as well. I stopped the injections in 1985, when I very intelligent dermatologist, whose wife had AU, convinced me to stop pumping steroids into my body and to learn to accept it. I've had AU since sometime in 1986-87. Nothing seems to grow except for one stupid hair that I periodically have to tweeze from my chin! grrrr! Ironic!
