Are there any other women out there who have alopecia and had their hair grow back during pregnancy? I'm asking because I was completely bald before I was pregnant, grew enough hair to almost cosmetically go without a wig during pregnancy, and then lost it all again after my son was born. I know doctors say alopecia is an auto immune disorder, but my experience leads me to think it may be hormonal. I'd appreciate any input on the subject.

My wife lost about 90% of her hair all over her body after our 2nd child and remained that way for 2 years until she became pregnant with our 3rd. Almost all of her hair grew back by the time she delivered. Several months after delivery much of her hair fell out again. For those who have experienced a similar situation, I would like to know If you started to see hair loss a few months after delivery, or rather a few months after you started having your period again. For my wife it seemed to be after her period.
What way are you using iodine? I have never heard of this?
My daughter is now 16 years old, and began to suffer from alopecia with the first menstruation, is now AU. I believe that hormones have an important role in Alopecia ...
My hair (just on my scalp) has been growing back since I found out I was pregnant. I am 16 weeks now and I almost have enough hair to feel comfortable enough to go out without a wig. It seems kind of funny that only the hair on my scalp has grown back. I still don't have eye brows and everywhere else it is thin to the point of being almost non existent. I don't know how long it is going to last so I am just going to enjoy it while I have it.
The same thing happened to me.Im 25 yrs old, Ive had a nice length of hair all my life up until early 07 i got pregnant and ended up having a stillborn baby! During my pregnancy i started losing my hair it just started falling out real slow and at the time i had braids and my braids were falling out with my hair attached leaving bald spots that eventually led to baldness. I went to see a dermatologist and was diagnosed with alopecia. Shortly after in june 08 i got pregnant again and my hair started to grow back. It continued to grow and got shoulder length,i had my son in april of 09.I was so happy! i had my hair back and a new healthy baby boy. But when my son was 7 months it started to fall back out again leading to baldness. Now my hair is starting to grow again, the top is full but the sides arent just yet. Im so determined to get my hair back and it stay, I have been getting those shots in my head and using the steroid ointment.I just dont know what to think! No one in my family has ever had these problems. I dont have any health problems, i do know that i have anemia! And I had two blood transfusions after the two births! I dont have no auto immune disorder so im unsure of whats the cause.

I have had alopecia areata since I was 5. It would come and go mostly during hormonal points in my life. I went on the birth control pill at 18 and for the entire 8 years I was on it, I never experienced any hair loss. I discontinued the pill around 25 and within months my hair started to fall out again, eventually after a year I had entire hair loss and had to wear a wig. I got pregnant with my first child and my hair started to grow back during the pregnancy, then fell out again shortly after he was born...about 6 months. Then my hair started to grow back again during the pregnancy of my second child, and same thing again 6 months or so after she was born I lost everything on my entire body, alopecia universals. After my children the alopecia was at its worst I have no hair anywhere. I went back on the pill to see if maybe my hair would grow back and so far after 8 months nothing yet. Pregnancy suppresses your immune system in order to take care of the growing baby, so therefore busy with baby and not attacking the hair follicles. So yes, during pregnancy your hair will grow back....then fall out again after even more than before. I have also tried Latisse on my eyebrows and eyelashes and that has not worked for me either.

Great news!! My wife has been seeing a homeopathic doctor who has been treating her with an auto-vaccine for about two years now. She has been wig/hat free since October 2011. She just has a small spot on her head where the hair has never grown back and half of one eyebrow has never grown back either.

Caldwell, what type of auto-vaccine is this and how did it make your wife's hair grow back?

The doctor ran a series of blood tests and had my wife take various supplements to make sure hormone and neurotransmitter levels were balanced. She then had a stool sample sent to a lab that prepares the auto-vaccine. The doctor now gives my wife an injection every 4 to 6 weeks that causes the immune system to stop attacking the hair follicles. I wish I could explain it better. You may want to contact someone who specializes in auto-immune disorders.

can you please post the doctor's contact information

I strongly believe birth control pills are to blame! I had a small spot at age 4 went away never came back until i was about 20 and i went on birth control pills! Within months it started coming out i was kind of goin through some stress also. During my pregnacy when i was 23 my hair started growing byt now my son is two and i have almost all regrowth and my etebrows and lashes are starting to grow in! So im thankfull but who knows how long it will last im
Scared to ever go back on a birth control pill now
