Hello to all my folliclly challenged friends. I'm trying to find out if anyone else has these symptoms or is it something with me. I wake up in the morning feeling refreshed and ready to start my day. Then about 1-2 hours later, I'm so tired. As the day goes on and I push myself to keep working, my body starts to get really stiff. When I stand up, it takes quite a few steps until my legs and back loosen up. Anyone have or had these symptoms?

Thanks all!

Yes, I had all kind of symptoms....ALL started the same time I got alopecia. I felt horrible, and doctors couldn't find anything.
I start to get depressed. I keep thinking "whats wrong with me". But I guess I should just relax and go with the flow. I'm currently unemployeed, so I guess I should take advantage and sleep as much as I can.
I get extremely tired now, but i was told by my doctor that they aren't linked... But i truly was never this tired prior to having Alopecia. So I am entirely convinced that they have to be related!
I've had tons of blood work done. Everything comes back fine. My doctor also said there is no connection between the alopecia and my fatigue, I too, am not convinced.

Thanks everyone. It's nice to know I'm not loosing (what I have left) my mind.

Hello Leslie,

sorry to hear about your symptoms! Do you know that when they did your blood work whether they included an ANA test and thyroid test?

Also - just something maybe to consider running by your doc next time you have an appt..... the only time I remember feeling that way - just exhausted, stiff, little fuzzy... nothing that specific - just not feeling "normal" - I found out I had lyme disease. After a long course of antibiotics -- all the symptoms went away.

good luck!!
If you are depressed about hairloss...that can cause fatigue. I sleep sooo much when Im depressed. I never noticed a link with alopecia though.
Some medications can cause muscle weakness, as can sedentary jobs. Fatigue? Possibly menopause!
Boy that sounds like RA (or a similar disease in the same autoimmune family). My husband got Rheumatoid Arthritis 11 years ago. It causes stiffness (especially upon rising in the a.m. or anytime he is still too long, like a car ride or even a holiday dinner). Another hallmark is fatigue, which is quite debilitating. It took 8 months of trying different drugs and regimes before being referred to a rheumatologist for the RA diagnosis.

Many docs believe AA is also an autoimmune disease (like RA, Lupus, Crohns, Fibromalagia), so there may be a correlation. And I think I have read Lupus causes hair loss. I would continue to pursue this, just in case it is an autoimmune disease. Hopefully it is NOT, and is just a coincidence. Good luck to you!
Susan, these are great suggestions and tips. I totally agree with you about the dr.s too. You are so right!!
I agree that the two biggest factors in how you feel are diet and stress. I would beging to east healthier and exercise after a few days you will feel much better also it will reduce your depression and stress. You can begin by taking brisk walks or bike rides. As for diet you need to ask a nutritionist but fresh fruits veggies and nuts always seem to make me feel better
Hi Leslie, i was experiencing this too, but i have hashimotos (thyroid) so i think mine may be because of that. I am guessing since alopecia is an autoimmune thing, it could be causing your symptoms. Have you had any tests done to see if it could be something else causing it?
Thank you so much everyone. I have had everything under the sun tested. I have been hypothyroid for years. Because of my thyroid and my alopicia I naturally think I have some autoimmune disorder, but no one can seem to identiy it. I've started working with my pilates ball this week and doing a lot of stretching. I also started yoga. It feels better just doing something good for myself. I had to quick my job a couple of months ago because the stress was really beating me up. The thought of having to go back to work at some point is very worrysome as I don't know how I'm going to make it through a day without napping. (which is adding stress) I have started eating a lot better. Tons of blueberrys, strawberrys, oranges, salad, oatmeal in the morning. And my evening meals have been my smallest meal of the day. So I think I'm doing everything I can. So onward and upward. Thank you all again so very much.
