Hey everyone,

I've been wondering if exposure to mold or fungus can trigger/cause alopecia? I remember when I was about 7 or 8 yrs old my finger nails just randomly started falling out and the doctor said it caused by some fungal problem. I was in no way a dirty kid or anything it was just completely random. They grew back after I was put on some medication and haven't done it again since.

I've been dealing with AA for about 2 years now but about 5 months ago I lost the majority of my hair on my head (currently as I write this I'd guesstimate less than 5% of my hair is left) and now my eye brows are starting to go. This was same time I was living in a house at school that had a really bad mold problem (almost to the point where I was getting concerned on living there lol). So maybe that was the triggering point to my rapid hair loss?

Has anyone else had anything similar happen to them and later be diagnosed with aa/au/at? I wonder if its a possible connection between the two.

For the heck of it I'm going to try some anti-fungal soap and ointment and see if there is any improvement.

The trigger seems to be different for different people. I think it was mono for my daughter. Let us know if the anti-fungal products work.

Hello, my daughter has used the oil of oregano as an antifungal but only orally, in capsules, is now trying herbal antiparasitic lotions now three and a half months but still do not see regrowth. However, we too have lived in a house with a lot of mold and I think this may have caused the hair loss ...

Hey ,

I myself lost one nail , like you , i was like 8 , I didn't know why , it happened like that without having to pull out the nail or something. I use to "eat them a lot" .Since , I haven't any nails problem (well they now are like fragile since I have alopecia U). I recently thought about it , and asked myself if there was a link ( with the keratin stuff). I will try like you some anti-fungal soap , to see if there is some change.

Sorry for my bad english , bye
