Hi all

I am about to put in an order for a custom made lace wig. I have never worn one but need something which stays on because i need to put a helemt on and off all the time.

I do have sensitive skin and there are so many glues and tapes ... i really have no idea what is good and what i should be staying away from .

Id love feed back from as many people as possible who have had lace wigs or who still wear them

- how long do u keep them on ur head for before u need to take it off and clean your head?
- tape and glue? or just one ?
- how long does the actual wig last for?
- whats the best store to buy it from ?
- any particular hair type to go for ?
- do the glue/tape/ wig ppl ship to australia?

thanks so much for anyones help.

Hi Michaela

Good luck with everything. Just wanted to drop a wee note to say to be very careful with the glues, tape you decide to use. If you have allergies, which it sounds like you do, be sure to do a test on your skin first to make sure you don't react. Also, be aware that to take some of the glues and tapes off requires other products which again can cause issues if you are sensitive. Always do a little test before you purchase.

Hey Michela!
I am not an expert but I was just working at a high end wig company and I have learned that different glues work for different people. Some people's skin ph is just not compatible with some glue. You kind of have to experiment. The wigs and pieces we would service generally lasted a few months and we would rebond/retape them every two weeks or so give or take the clients' activity level/income ect. You can choose to do glue which is less daily hassle but you have to get used to having the bond on your head for a week or two at a time or you have the option of taping daily.

Hope this helps a little!

I'm not sure about the shipment specifications to Australia.

I have purchased a different type of hairpiece other than the full lace, which stays on by itself. but I tried the Got2b glued on a older synthetic monotop I had, and it's fantastic. I just put the wig on, than lifted the edges of the wig and put some on my head where the wig would sit, at first I thought "no way is this going to work" but when it dried it was so secure! and like the post earlier said it came off my head and the wig with water. I don't know if I would want something stuck to my head for so long. Hopefully others who wear this type of wig will chime in here with advice. I have really sensitive skin too, and eczema I cant use tapes at all. I would think you could find the Got2b glued on the internet if you do not have it in stores there. Good luck! Keep us posted when you get your new wig....how exciting.

Hi, I live in Queensland , Australia so it is pretty hot and humid most of the year. By trial and error I now purchase full lace human hair wigs from a Chinese vendor and attach them using 'super tape' and 'mity-tite', glue. I purchase these two products from a wonderful man named Peter, in Sydney who owns a company called 'aussiehair.com.au', he has been a fantastic help to me,( he mainly deals with toupees). I bought my first h/h lace wig from china in December 2011 and it is still lovely, I even colour it now and then.
I have been wearing wigs since I was 8 years old and am now 53, so I have definitely spent volumes of money on rubbish.
Please let me know if I can be of any assistance. Have a happy day.

Kaye, wow you have had a lace wig thats lasted almost a year? One of the things that has turned me away from the lace ones is I heard that they only last a few months, I wouldn't want to keep buying and changing out my hair that often. Do you take it off everyday? Do you sleep in them? Sorry for the questions away from the gripping aspect, but thats amazing!

My daughter has the most success with super tape. She takes her wig off and washes it every 2-4 days. She rotates between 2 wigs. We buy a new wig every 2-3 months but they are super long and she is hard on them. We get them from several companies in china and I am trying a new company now. A site called wig support has been helping me with my questions.

Hi Karen,
Do you live in Australia?, if so, where are you buying your super tape and glues from? I am currently buying from a lovely man in Sydney and it is a little expensive, I had noticed that on the Chinese wig sites I look at for wigs, they often sell super tapes for a fraction of the cost of what I'm paying, eg 36 yards of super tape for $75.00. Have you or anyone out there in alopecia world ever bought tapes from china?
I can buy from USA but it takes 4weeks for delivery where China is 1week.
Thanks

Hi, My daughter orders the tape from someone on ebay. I am not really sure where it is shipped from. I live in the US.
