I have had AU for over 5 years now... and i have done different kinds of wigs. Starting with synthetic, then lace front synthetic, then human hair lace front, and now i need a new wig.

My issue is that i want to have a wig that will finally allow me to wear my hair up naturally and let me go to the beach and whatnot without being self conscious. Also now that it has been this long without regrowth, i feel justified in spending more $$ on a unit that is realistic. I have done a little research, and found that lace wigs (whether swiss or french) are how you can recreate a natural hairline and finally wear a pony tail again...

the problem is, i used to hear such horror stories about the adhesive used to attach the hair piece. is it dangerous? cancerous? can it be removed if i need it to? (sometimes i just like to be free when at home - no wig or scarf.

anyone with experience? and also if anyone knows someone in the DC area that specializes in consultations or would be able to help me thru this, let me know!

whats the site??? is it like hairclub.com?
thanks Cindy :) Did you order it online or in a salon? I am trying to find out if i can do this on my own or if i need a salon to help....

tapes never quite worked when i used it with my mono-top lace front wigs, thats why i wonder with the adhesive, if the hold is better. or maybe i wasnt "prepping" my skin better for the tape....
is it super expensive? i might even be willing to go to NY for a formal consultation if it makes the process easier. I just see theres like a difference of $600+ between ordering it online and going into a salon...
In the theater I work in the actors wear these lace adhesives every day & they look so real! It must not be harmful 'cause they do 9 shows a week!
If you want a place closer to Washington, DC, I highly recommend Symmetry Hair Salon in Ellicott City, MD. I recently got a partial hair piece there and the owner is very knowledgable and extremely helpful. My piece is lacefront and human hair. I am using tape to hold it on - because I like to be able to take it off when I exercise.

Let me know if you want any other information.

Thanks everyone!!! :)
I am also looking to get a full lace wig in the very near future. I was thinking of ordering from undetectablewigz.com . I talked to someone on the phone and sent a few emails that were replied to very quickly, but I was wondering if anyone has had experience ordering from them in the past? I'm also in the DC area, so if there are any location-specific recommendations I would also be interested. Thanks!!
I actually got an appointment for the symmetry hair salon that was mentioned by danette - was gonna just order my hair system online, but i got spooked by possibly not knowing how to measure my head correctly, so i guess the first time i should go to a professional even if it costs more. My appointment is on next friday so i can let you know how it goes!
I get my wigs at the Wig Boutique in Fairfax, near 495. They arent lace front but very nice- doctors examine them closely all the time becuase they just cannot believe its a wig. The shop is run by two older ladies which concerned me that they may not know what was HIP but they do an amazing job- the styling is awesome. I paid around 800 for Jacquelyn long human hair wigs with french tops- could get cheaper online but with the cutting and adjustments, I think their prices are competitive. Maybe call them and see if they do lace front.
Hi Spaganya:
I just got a lace front wig that I'm looking to get styled and was searching the boards to see if I could find recommendations for stylists in the DC area. I'd love to hear if you were happy with your experience at Symmetry Hair Salon? The other possible recommendation I've come across is Cheryl's Health Boutique in Rockville. Has anyone had any experience with them or have other recommendations in the DC area?
Thanks!
Kathy
