So I want to share my story with you. I was diagnose with alopecia last February. I dont know what caused it. I always had a long thick hair, and noone in my family has hairloss. I really think it was stress and poor nutrition. I was in college and very stress, not sleeping, not eating good... I was also on birth control, so maybe that had something to do with it? Who knows, but when I first noticed my bald spot on the crown on my head, I did not know what it was, I thought I had some kind of weird disease. So I researched, read A LOT about it, and started to make changes in my life. Since its an autoimmune disease, I decided I should probably start to feed my body better. I started eating healthy, exercise (for blood circulation), and using better shampoos for my hair. I prefer the Phytobrush, because its 40% rosemary which its supposed to be good for your scalp :) . So besides those little changes in my life, I began seeing a dermatologist. He explained to me about alopecia and how even tho my hair might regrow, it could fall out again. I was getting cortisone shots around the bald patches every month, and then every 2 months for a year, until the patch was all filled in :) ... now i dont have to get the shots anymore and im just waiting for my little hairs to keep growing into long hairs. I reacted really well to the shots, so he said he doesnt think my hair will fall out again, but theres always a possibility (knock on wood). So now i just try to stay healthy and not stress too much, because everyone's body reacts different, and this was a big sign that my body was trying to tell me to take care of it better. And if God wants me to go bald later on in life, then it'll just help me be a more confident person, and just gotta stay positive. Good luck everyone. I know its hard, it was probably the hardest thing I had to deal with in my life.

Thanks for posting your story Laura. I didn't ever get the shots but steroid creams and foam plus numerous other treatments brought most of my hair back in time (who knows which ones worked). I would have taken the shots too if I had been offered so it's good to hear that they worked for you.

AA was probably the hardest thing that I've ever dealt with in my life...and it still concerns me that it can return at any point.
i know me too :( but for now ill just enjoy the hair that i have :) im glad that the foam worked for you too!! im sure it was less painless than than the shots haha, but they werent that bad i must say... its amazing different things work for different people, but thats with everything in life.
I didnt find them as painful as other people, but everyone is different. The were a little painful a few mins after i got them, but bearable. I didnt mind them much, but that's me. Try them, see if it is something that will work for you, that's the only way to really know. :) good luck!
I know exactly what you are saying, Laura, and I completely admire you for taking your health into your own hands and doing something about it. Innately, you seem to have recognized what your body was telling you - my acupunturist says that 25% of the people she sees have the ability to heal themselves and you would be one of them. Keep up the good work and continue to share how this worked for you - who knows who you may inspire and ultimately help.
hey Laura~ your story sounds almost identical to mine! my patches showed up my senior year of high school when i was stressed with school and family issues and nutrition was out of the question. i saw a dermatologist as well, and recieved shots on a regular basis, the spots would fill in but another would show just as fast. i agree the injections are painful, but nothing that i couldnt handle, and the dr was really good about going slow and only inject as many times as i could handle. also the spots where i would get injections would "cave" in, i would have indents... they said it is completley normal but still kinda threw me off, im not sure if any one else has experienced this before?
unforunatley the shots didnt work for me and i now am completley bald, but iam so happy that they have been working for you! good luck! :)
I go in for another round of shots tomorrow. I still have hair falling out,...but the first place that I lost it is already growing back...so I'm hoping that once it falls out and comes back it stays put!! LOL I don't know if the shots are what's helping, or not. The doctor told me that the dents are normal and will fill back in over time and he also doesn't give a shot in the same exact spot the where a dent is. The shots do sting but my doc goes quick all over my head...first in the patches and then around the edges of them..my head is usually more sore the day after rather than the day of.

i had the same problem! my hair would still fall out around the patch but grow inside, but eventually (after a few months- almost a year) that stopped and the patches filled in! it was frustrating but be patient and they'll fill in! if hair grows back it means they are working and responding to the shots :)
are you still on birth control?
nope, I stopped because of my hair, I got scared... but I was taking them for a year+ before I had alopecia, and I was fine, so I dont think it was the birth control so much. I want to go back on it, but Id have to talk to my doctor and see what he says because Im paranoid... I researched some with low androgen hormones, I think those are less risky with hair loss, but Ill see what the doc recommends.
