I am so sorry - that was the hardest for me to accept - is losing my eyelashes an eyebrows. They have been gone for 15 years. I miss them STILL so much! I never wore a lot of makeup before this, but through trial and error have learned to wear more. A face is so blank without eyelashes and eyebrows. I have my eyebrows tattooed, love it, but they need re-doing right now but haven't found someone here local I trust to do them. I do wear false eyelashes ( now talk about frustrating to do, ugh!) anyway, we have to do what works for us. You could go to a make-up counter in a department store and they could help you with some techniques on what to do. I have been to Ulta and Sephora both looking for a eyeliner that stays on - waterproof, etc... and they can't believe I have alopecia and have lost it all. :-) so I must be doing something right, or they are lying, one of the two. ha ha! best of luck to you. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, I don't mind. I am far from an expert. and probably you will get help on here too.
This is hardest thing. Permanent make up for the brows is the way to go. It will save time and your sanity with it. The false eyelashes you just have to get use to. It really is awful but it is an adjustment that you will make over time. I am so sorry you are going through this.
I know how hard it is to lose your brows and lashes, especially if you had not been wearing much makeup before now. I always wore and loved makeup, and still do, I just find that I have to do things a bit differently now. I never had to do my brows before, so that is new for me, my lashes have come and gone a few times, but when they come back they are all weird and don't curl upward like before, even when I curl them they just are not right, so I don't even wear mascara when I have them anymore, I find that with eyeliner I don't really miss the lashes so much. I found that a gel type of liner works best for me, you apply with a little brush. I agree with going to a makeup counter, take a friend along and make it a fun day, they will give you tips on how to apply, and may even have products just for those without lashes or eyebrows. then the fun comes with experimenting with different looks, until you feel comfortable with your new look. Each area of loss holds it's own pain. I'm sorry your going through this right now.
I went thru this 39 yrs ago after the birth of my eldest daughter, all within 2 weeks my hair went, then my eyelashes and brows would come and go for a couple of years only to finally go and stay gone. I used to go thru all the bother of false eyelashes and such, but with a little one to care for it was just to much. Now all these years later I will apply a little make up such as eye liner and pencil in my brows when I want to look special, otherwise I wear no make up. I wore minimal makeup before. I have a few very very short lashes, so there is something there, and with the newer products, I can get enough mascara on them to do the job, with the added liner. For my brows, my main concern is they not look like a pencil line, so important for me to feather it out with a brow brush of some kind. I am truely sorry that after all these years still medical science has not figured out how to make sure another does not have to go thru what I went thru. Hugs
Ya that is no fun! I lost all mine within a year, but the eyelashes and eyebrows were the hardest!!
I use Ibrowsers, which are temporary eyebrows. I am too afraid of permanent! I alos use liquid liner and fake eyelashes everyday. a makeup artist can help teach you to apply, but I just learned through trial and error
man, that has been the worst part for me too! i've had alopecia for 11 years, and my hair fell out really quickly as well, followed by brows & lashes. i don't mind being bald so much but just HATE not having eyebrows! when they first fell out i drew them on, but then i needed glasses and i didn't draw them on anymore, for years. the glasses kind of made me feel better about not having brows. but i am getting older now, and i feel like it's time to start working on my look some, so i am experimenting with brows a bit. i am currently using eyebrow stuff from Ditzy - they have templates and a gel & powder combo. i'm not real big into makeup either, but you will find what works for you. doesn't have to be makeup at all, it's just what you feel comfortable with. i feel for you, and it is so hard, but keep your chin up! remember, if someone has a problem with you, that's THEIR problem. don't try to make it yours, or it will drive you crazy! you are the way you are, you didn't choose to be this way... the only choice you have is how you deal with it. best of luck to you, hang in there & know you aren't alone!
She said that it was not super painful but not exactly fun either. She doesn't want to get the liner done because of the pain and closeness to her eyes.
I came here today specifically to ask about eyebrows. My daughter, who had eyebrows like Brooke Shields, is now losing them too, along with her previously thick, long eyelashes. She says when her eyebrows fall out, she is not going to school any more (7th grade.) I don't know what to do. I am going to check out the suggestions below. This is too damn hard.
oh poor thing, that is so rough. I lost mine in high school and I drew them for awhile and hated it. fake eyebrows rocked my life!!! I have ones that are like stick on tattoos from ibrowsers, but I recently found these which seem like they are real hair?? Havent seen them in person

They might help your daughter feel better!
I filled mine with pencil until it got really bad then I shaved and went to fake ones. Suggest that to your daughter to help transition? I am sure her friends will be supportive of her and tell her to open up to them. If anyone teases her it will help to have a support group at school
So sorry and understand where you're coming from...I quickly lost all of my hair at Thanksgiving time last year, talk about a shock since I've never had trouble with thinning hair. Lost the brows and eyelashes a few weeks later. Hair on my head was much easier to cope with than the eyebrows. I too penciled in my brows for months and then stumbled on a site called Beauti-full brows, that are temporary tattoos!! These worked very well for me made it a little bit easier...And now after almost a year after total hair loss I just had my brows tattooed 3 days ago...of course I'm in the healing process but it has already made my life easier and I feel more confident knowing if I rub my brow line it won't come off..not to mention they're always the same!! As for my eyelashes i just put on a little eyeliner to give the illusion of lashes. I've worn false lashs at times but I struggle with them to much...Good luck and I hope this helps...
