New to the website which means I'm new to Alopecia as well (7 months new). Buying a HH wig this week and narrowed it down to "Kate" by Jon Renau or "Jaqueline" by WigPro. Wanting to know if anyone has comments on the "smartlace" top by Jon vs. standard monofilament top. Thanks.

I would go with Kate by Jon Renau..it has the mono top PLUS smartlace...it looks so pretty and it's all hand-tied. You can see videos of it on: wigs.com or voguewigs.com

Good luck!!

I purchased a wig pro HH - my first expensive wig. for me it was awful. It constanly scratched my neck and I could only wear it for a few hours as it rubbed my neck raw. The hair was fairly nice. When I bit the bullet and purchased a custom wig my wig maker was able to cut and reconstruct the wig to better fit my head - it is more comfortable but still scratchy so I only wear it from time to time when I want to go with a darker color (the color was darker than I wanted to begin with)

I purchased the "spicy" smart lace Jon Renau and I did not like it all all. It looked like I have had a hair transplant because the knots were not bleached. I have (had) dark brown hair, the only wigs I wear know are follea however, they are very expensive.... Good luck

My caution to anyone buying "off the rack" is to know your head size. Most people with alopecia have petite or ultra-petite head sizes. I know for myself that a normal size wig will be way too large for me over the top of the head ear-to-ear as well as ear-to-ear across the back of my head. Sometimes even petite sizes are too big and cause unsightly and uncomfortable gaps. I have had good luck ordering custom-sized lace and lace-front units from the manufacturer in China. Several people on AW also order custom pieces from Chinese vendors with good result. The hair won't be European, but I find that the Brazilian, Malaysian, and virgin Indian hair -- with some styling effort -- can look very close to EHH, and the cost for a custom-fitted cap makes it a very cost-effective alternative.

I found the smart lacecshifted enough to show my sparse hair atvthe hairline. Might get wig tape to prevent this. I ended up adding bangs to obscure the hairline anyway. It didn't look real enough up close for me to be comfortable. My wig was dark brown. If you got a light one it would probably look good.
