Hi....just wondering on others thoughts on whether I can/should/ or shouldn't bleach/dye the dark spots that are coming up..... After Losing all hair and going bald, I now have Snow White regrowth all over....but there are lots of dark patches too...which I'm thinking I could just dye to blend in?
Any of your experiences, thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks,
Snowflake :-)

Hi Snowflake,
Congratulations on your regrowth. I have read some posts on here where people have suggested not dying the white hair as it is fine and delicate. It is really your choice though. I have AU and have started to get the white regrowth, and I think I would be tempted to dye it when it all grew in but I would say to you to do what you feel is right for you. I have also been researching about how hair grows back after it has all fallen out and people have said that it grows back white and fine, with a translucent look but that it then changes to grow in with colour. A member on here said it took 6 months to go from no hair to colour hair. I am waiting for that day to come for me. How long did it take for you to start the white regrowth until it had all grown in?
Debbie.
Feel welcome to post any questions you have on here, we are all in similar situations. Are the dark patches stronger hair like normal hair? If so it should be ok to dye them however going from dark to light means using peroxide. To put your mind at ease you could get a hairdresser to do it and some hairdressers will come to your house. They could suggest the best way to blend you hair colour in together. All the best and let us know how you go.
I have AU and have been going for DPCP treatments since Jan. I had some regrowth..all white pigment. The derm said there is no problem in colouring the white and that it doesn't impact the growth either way. It was my plan but have had another flare and have lost quite a bit of the regrowth....one day at a time...
Hi Michelle
sorry to hear of your flare up..it seems sometimes its like one step forward, two steps back :-(
In regards with my regrowth, i just wanted to dye the dark bits to blend in with the snow white color, but i just gotta get the courage up to go see someone to do it! I figure, the worst that could happen is it would fall out... and thats already happened to me, so if i do it whilst its little short, it wouldnt be so bad... we will see what happens... :-)
Hi Debbie,
i dont have as much time as i would like on this website, and im sure i would find people with similar questions as to what i am asking.. I got my partner to look at it closely, and the small sections of the dark hair i cant see myself, and the dark patches just seem like normal hair. Is the white hair not normal hair? It all feels pretty strong. Where i got my wig, the girl there also suffers from Alopecia and is very caring and understanding, and treats a lot of people with similar conditions. And she has a private room there also, if you dont feel comfortable sitting in the salon. So i suppose i just gotta ring up and make the appointment. I mean she saw me when i was bald, so i dont know why i am so nervous to ring up to see her! hehe
My hair started growing back looking platinum blonde, which is very unusual for me! (got a little excited, not gonna lie!) But there is one patch that is longer than the rest that has now started turning brown. The only thing I know about Alopecia is that you can't predict anything.... so maybe it will change/even out as it grows longer???? I am just happy to have regrowth and am not bringing any chemicals CLOSE to my scalp again. Good luck and congrats!
Yes it is very unusual for me to have this platinum blonde hair, as my orginal hair before i lost it all, was brownish with honey blonde through it. Although i hide it when i go out, you can see little bit poking out from hats etc, and everyone seems to think its an awesome color, they people dye to get that color! Me, cant say i am loving it, but am trying to accept it - the dark spots that are growing bigger and it just looks funny to me.. I never tried any treatment or did any medication when i first started losing it, as all my hair just went rapidly, all gone, there was no time, and i was told you cant do anything anyways... I know its up to me...so if i do get someone to dye the dark spots we will just try to be careful. I figure i might as well try it now, whilst its short. Thanks for the comments, good luck yourself :-)
Well, I tried using coffee once to get mine darker... didn't work and was a TOTAL mess. But there are so many more products being introduced that are organic now, or close to it, you'll just have to use your judgement. I'm sure you'll find something. I tried steroid injections, it worked once and not the second time. But my doctor was just kind of like, Sorry... you won't lose it all. Stop worrying. And that was that. Good luck again, though. Hope you can get back to your "normal" again!
Well ill skip the coffee trick...hehe....i want to cover the dark patches not make the whole hair dark :-) Yep ive decided im gonna go to the salon where i got my wig (as she herself suffers alopecia, and they are very sensitive to other sufferers and are really nice there) and at least talk to her and see what she thinks of dying the dark patches to match the platinum blonde that im rocking now! Just getting the nerves up to do it! I didnt try any medication or steroid injections, my hair loss was so rapid in such a short time span, and i was told there was nothing i could do anyways, as they told me i as well as suffering from the alopecia totalis, that i have another immune disease too. SO when i think back, i really didnt get a lot of support from the medical field. I think im learning more about it on here! :-)
i suppose all the regrowth for each person is so unpredictable isnt it :-) Im a natural brownish blonde! Now after losing all my hair, its grown back snow white, with these black dark patches! i can see more growing around the edges and they are dark... so its gonna be a strange look! hehe i dont know if the other white parts will change color either.. i know i have to peroxide the dark spots so hopefully there is a not too harsh mixture out there...
