Hi there - thank you for sharing your story! I lost about 50% of my hair two years ago. Most of it has grown back, but I have roughly a dozen patches all over my head that I luckily, and for the time being, am able to hide.
In what form do you take cortisone - is it local injections, pill form, or intramuscular? And how often? The only reason my hair has grown back is because of the cortisone injections. I get scalp injections but I also do the intramuscular from time to time which has really helped. However, it's not something I'd prefer to do long term.
Would you mind telling me more about Methotrexate? Does it have a lot of side effects?
HI Yvonne, I would like to know exactly what you used. I have had alopecia my entire life..I am 48 and am now hairless :( but after this amount of time I have accepted the fact it could be worse, but I always wish for hair so...too old to try anything crazy but am all for natural supplements. I used castor oil on my eyebrows this summer and have had some luck with that as well. Congrats on your regrowth and thanks for sharing
i wish my hair to regrowth back .i have alopecia aerata .always regrowth back the hair if you louse like spots on you head.good luck to you all the best.thank you for sharing you story with us.
Hi Lynne
I read your story with great interest as I've suffered all my life with AA, it always rears its ugly head (excuse the pun) with patches of hair loss when I am under stress.
Now, at the age of 62, its back again and with a vengeance this time. I have been under great stress and once again, guess I will have to go back to the specialist to have a few more painful injections into my scalp. You mentioned that your doctor prescribed cortisone, 20mg of methotrexate with vitamin B, Vitamin D and a low fat/low salt diet. Are you talking cortisone in tablet form or injected into your scalp? Do you also meditate?
I find it very hard to find the time to meditate but now have to force myself as I now have over 6 patches of bald all on the back of my head, fortunately hidden by hair above, but its getting worse and is very scary.
Thanks very much for sharing your story with fellow sufferers! I have had it since I was in my early twenties and its back with me forty years later......just awful.
Many thanks
Deb
Hi TMB,
Thanks for your prompt response, so pleasing to have support with this awful condition.
What treatments are you using at the moment? I tend to run off to the specialist to get cortisone injections which always help, however, I am always worried about the side-effects which are apparently an underminiing of the immune system.... but better than watching the bald spots get bigger every day.....yikes, very scary!!
Have you been under stress on and off? I can definitely link it in with stress & the re-occurrence of the bald spots.
