Hi everyone,
I am AU since June 2017 and 13 weeks into Xeljanz. Started at 5mgs twice a day, am now up to 20 mgs twice a day. I have had no response whatsoever, and am getting increasingly discouraged and terrified that I will not respond at all.
I would LOVE to hear from anyone who ultimately responded to Xeljanz, but much more slowly than most people on this forum seem to take.
How long did it take for you to respond in any way? How did you respond? What was your dosage? Have you gone on to see complete recovery, and if so in how long a time span?
Really hoping for stories that give me some hope - thanks so much everyone.
Anna

13 weeks is not enough time. Give it more time. That dosage seems to be very high. I am hopeful that you are being monitored closely by a doctor and having blood work done routinely. I have seen response on my daughter with 5 and 10 milligrams.
Thank you ALo-mom - and after how many weeks did your daughter respond?
I am on xeljanz since February 15, 2018 I have very good regrowth and it continues, 10mg per day and I start at 15 mg, and I saw the first regrowth after the first month
I'm hoping to start on Xeljanz next week, or Humira, another Biologic. I still have to formulate more questions and do more research before I see my doctor next week so, I'm glad to hear what kind of results people are getting here. Right now I'm on MTX and its doing nothing. Btw, I also have RA as well as other autoimmune disorders so, I'm hoping one of these drugs does the trick for everything
YES! Good luck to you too! I'm hoping for the best because I'm AU for almost 30 years now, and I would like to have some hair, eyebrows and eyelashes to remember what I really look like
In 2014 I became AU within a matter weeks. I started 10mg a day xeljanz, went up to 20mg and it took me about a year to have any significant growth. I had about 70% growth on my head, but no lashes or brows. I stopped Xeljanz for about 6 months and everything fell out. I re-started xeljanz, 20-25mgper day, and within 4 months I had 90% growth on my head. Lashes and brows began growing in as well. I had to stop a second time because I was pregnant with our second child. During my pregnancy I kept most of the hair on my head, just the top thinned out and I lost the hair around the temples and lower back hair line. I lost the lashes and brows.
I re-started xeljanz for the third time on March 15th, so I'm on 6 weeks taking 25mg per day. My lashes are growing and I have eye brow hair growing. I had cortisone injections in the bald spot and they are filling in very fast. I'll post pictures later today of my progress.
Dont give up! The first time I took it I was considered an "incomplete" responder; I still had to wear wigs and didn't get enough growth AND it took a very long time.
For some reason it was when I stopped the medication and re-started it that things really started working and very quickly.
What kind of doctor are you seeing? Are you in the USA?
I started this whole process by flying out from Seattle, WA to CT to see Dr. King. I was going out to see him every three months as well as a Dermatologist here in Seattle. The derm here monitors my blood work every three months and I've never had an issue being on xeljanz. I will go to the ends of the earth seeking treatment. I will not allow alopecia to be my story the rest of my life. It has greatly affected every area of my life; confidence, my marriage, my job, relationships, overall health. It just doesn't feel very good.
